Today we’d like to introduce you to Simon (Sam) Nikan.
Hi Simon (Sam), thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’m a professional dancer originally from Saint Petersburg, Russia, and I’m currently based in Los Angeles. I moved here in 2021. Back home, I had my own dance company and was fully involved in the industry, but moving to the U.S. meant starting from scratch. It wasn’t easy, but I’m grateful I made that step — and proud of how far I’ve come. I also want to thank the people who supported me in the very beginning and opened doors for me.
I’m currently signed with Go 2 Talent Agency.
Over the past few years, I’ve had the chance to work with Universal Studios, appear in a commercial for Sony, and recently join a brand-new theatre show, The Cortage. Working alongside such incredible professionals has been an amazing experience.
I’ve also had the opportunity to teach and share my knowledge of street dance at iconic studios like Millennium Dance Complex, Movement Lifestyle, Offstage, and others. For someone who isn’t originally from here, it means a lot.
It’s been a journey — challenging, exciting, and full of growth — and I know there’s much more ahead. I hope my story inspires others to follow their path and chase their dreams.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not a smooth road. Moving to Los Angeles in 2021 meant starting completely over — new country, new industry, new rules. Back home I had my own dance company and was already established, but here I had to rebuild everything from the ground up. It was tough emotionally and financially.
There were moments when I doubted myself, when things moved slower than I hoped, and when I felt like I had to prove myself over and over again just to be seen. On top of that, adapting to a different culture and navigating the dance industry in the U.S. wasn’t always easy.
But at the same time, those challenges pushed me to grow. They made me more resilient, more focused, and more thankful for every opportunity. Looking back, I’m proud that I didn’t give up. Every struggle became part of the journey, and each one helped shape who I am today — both as an artist and as a person.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a professional dancer with a focus on Hip-Hop, House, and Locking — the styles that not only shaped my foundation, but also continue to drive my artistic voice. Street dance has always spoken to me through its history, musicality, and community, and that energy is at the core of everything I do.
My work spans both performance and commercial projects. I’ve had the opportunity to appear in a Sony commercial, contribute to the music video Hopeless Romantic by Ashley Alisha, and most recently join the cast of The Cortage, a newly launched theatre production that blends movement, storytelling, and immersive performance. Each project allowed me to grow in different ways and collaborate with inspiring creatives.
Teaching is another major part of my career — and something I’m genuinely proud of. Being able to share my passion for street dance at studios like Millennium Dance Complex, Movement Lifestyle, Offstage, and others has been incredibly rewarding. For someone who came to Los Angeles from another country and had to build everything from scratch, moments like that feel especially meaningful.
What sets me apart is the combination of my roots and my journey. I come from a strong street dance background. but I’ve also embraced the creative challenges and opportunities that Los Angeles offers. I bring sincerity, musicality, and a deep respect for the culture, while constantly pushing myself to evolve. I’m proud of the path I’ve taken — and I’m excited for everything still ahead.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I’m always open to new creative collaborations, whether it’s performance, choreography, teaching, or commercial work. The best way to connect with me is through my agency, Go 2 Talent, or directly via my email and social platforms. I love partnering with artists, brands, and creators who value authenticity, movement, and storytelling.
For those who want to support my work, simply staying connected means a lot — coming to shows, sharing projects, taking classes, or reaching out with ideas. Community has played a huge role in my journey, and I’m always excited to meet people who are passionate about dance and creativity.
