Today we’d like to introduce you to Sienna Leone.
Hi Sienna, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My story is as simple as a young girl following and pursuing her dreams. I went to school to study Broadcast Journalism after my grandfather who isn’t with me anymore, always believed at a young age that I would be a Journalist. I guess you can say I have always been the one at the table or in the room digging deep and asking questions to get to know someone, it has always been in my system to ask the questions that some may be scared to ask someone. My Grandfather called me at about the age of 10 and goes, “Mijita, I believe you will be the next Savannah Guthrie”. Ironically, I went to the same Journalism School in Tucson, Arizona where Savannah Guthrie went, and fast forward, I am now interviewing the exact same actors and actresses as she is on The Today Show. I have to thank him for planting the seed in my head at a young age that I had what it takes to be a Journalist.
I always had a love for the Entertainment industry since I entered the acting world at a young age. When deciding what I wanted to do when I was older, I thought what a dream job to be an Entertainment Journalist as I get to be in front of the camera, in the Entertainment industry, but still be authentically myself. Once I graduated from University after studying my craft, I knew without a doubt in my mind that I was going to pursue this dream I had since I was 10
I am proud to say that I truly had no help in getting where I am today. I was determined and persevered to land the job I have today, and with the belief of the network I am at, Sweety High, my bosses gave me an opportunity of a lifetime. Fast forward three years later and with many interviews, award shows, movie junkets, practice, and classes under my belt, I am the only On-Camera host, Talent Booker, and Producer of one of the largest Gen-Z Entertainment Outlets based in Los Angeles, California, Sweety High.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I don’t think anyone can ever say anything in life is a “smooth road” when working toward a dream. My journey especially was not a smooth road as a Canadian girl trying to make a name for myself in the city where everyone comes to make their dreams come true. I was just lucky enough that I found people that believed in me and my work ethic to give me a shot.
There have been many struggles along the way. I think in reality I am still a young woman that is getting better at my craft every single day, and when you are in the eye of the public, it leaves a lot of things up to scrutiny whether that’s someone commenting on your looks, your voice, your questions, comparing you to others in your field, etc. All of those things and more made me feel super insecure at times earlier in my career because, with as much support and positive comments and feedback as you get, it takes only a few people online being rude for whatever reason that may be. I think because I started in this industry at the age of 21, I’m working those insecurities out at a young age in my career. Now, whenever I get self-conscious for whatever reason, I just try to change my mentality and focus, I simply don’t put any energy into the negative, I really just try and focus and stay in my lane as an individual in my field and wake up every day and try and be better, do better and work harder than I did the day before.
No matter what you do, there will always be someone trying to bring you down. I don’t like the focus on the struggles, I acknowledge them and then I acknowledge how I can do better and continue trucking along. I also have an amazing support system with my best friends and family who help me whenever I do have bumps in the road or doubts. It is never rainbows and butterflies but that’s what should fuel your fire at the end of the day.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am an On-Camera Host & Producer out in Los Angeles, California. You can catch me doing movie junkets for your favorite networks like Netflix, Paramount, Disney, Amazon Studios, etc., on the red carpet for some of the biggest award shows & movie premieres, like, the American Music Awards, IHeart Radio Festival, Critics Choice, etc. and interviewing some of your favorite actors/actresses, musicians, directors, social media stars and more!!
I think when looking at what I am most proud of, I would just say the professional growth I have had in the last 3 years. I have gotten more confident in front of the camera and that reflects in my questions, interactions, and reactions on camera. I am also very proud of the past three months I have had professionally. I have personally booked some of the biggest interviews in my career so far from George Clooney, Julia Roberts, Ryan Reynolds, Jason Momoa, Jessica Chastain, Kristen Bell, Michael B Jordan, Tim Allen, Kelly Rowland, and Antonio Banderas. It has been a very “pinch me” way to end 2022!
Any advice you would give someone wanting to get into your field of work?
I get many DM’s and emails from people wanting to get into my field of work on advice to break into the industry or on my story of how I did it. The biggest thing I always say is ALWAYS be wanting to learn, watch, and listen. Study the craft, don’t think because you think you like the entertainment industry and think you know how to ask questions it’s that easy because it isn’t! Never ever give up. You will get a million no’s in this industry but PERSEVERE! It only takes that one person to believe in you and give you a chance. Also, don’t let your ego get involved, it is okay if you have to start at the bottom to make it to the top. Reach out to people in the industry, go for coffee, hop on the phone with some of your favorite hosts/reporters, and ASK THE QUESTIONS!
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
When I look at how I define success, I truly would say if I wake up happy with a smile on my face, healthy, and have the continued love and work motivation towards my career as strong as the passion was from the very first in-studio interview I did three years ago, I would say that is my success and I have won. I am determined to stay kind, positive, and motivated as I keep working in my career. I love what I do so much that every day I get to do what I do is a success for me.
Oh! and having my old high school reach out to me a few months ago to come back to talk about my career was pretty cool! I always wanted to do that since I was a little kid, so that was a pretty cool moment that made me feel pretty honored!
