Today we’d like to introduce you to Sherene Obeid.
Hi Sherene, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I grew up in the fashion capital of the Middle East, Lebanon, home to the world-famous fashion designers Elie Saab, Zuhair Murad and George Hobeika. I would always be surrounded by stylish and sophisticated people. I enjoyed reading architectural and fashion magazines. My mother liked to custom-make our formalwear and had her own seamstress. I used to tag along to the European fabric stores; and get the latest materials and fabrics to create one-of-a-kind pieces. Quickly I learned it’s all in the details. I’ve always had an eye for fashion and have been looking for ways to express it. One day to shop for my wedding dress, I went with my mother to Elie Saab Atelier in Beirut, (Paris of the Middle East). I saw him in person; and I froze like a child who has met her fashion superhero! It was a special moment that I will cherish forever. I was enrolled in a French system for school; and later on went to an American college and graduated with a degree in business. The combination of my artistic side and business background helped me achieve success in my long career as a fashion stylist for the luxury department store, Saks Fifth Avenue.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When Covid hit, it was challenging for retail businesses. It kind of forced the shopping experience to switch to virtual. Clients were getting used to online shopping and not seeing the fabric, texture and color in person. I had to be very creative to keep existing customers and acquire new ones. Then social media, and Instagram in particular, came to save the day. I started creating stories that made the products come alive. I also focused on providing excellent customer service so that customers felt valued and appreciated.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a fashion stylist and personal shopper with almost ten years of experience at Saks Fifth Avenue in Costa Mesa (South Plaza location) and Beverly Hills. I am by appointment only; and can be reached via email: [email protected] OR IG DMs @styledbysherene. Clients contact me to style them for a special event, to upgrade their wardrobe or to source special pieces! My clientele consists of professionals in various fields like medical, real estate, music, sports and entertainment! In addition to corporate staff wardrobe styling like Aston Martin in Newport Beach.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
My main focus is not only to help my client look stylish, but also to have an enjoyable experience. For example, I curate looks for a girlfriend luncheon! Sip and Shop with your friends! Always a favorite! And on a bigger scale, I put together a private client fashion show in collaboration with Fashion Designers to benefit local Charities. Last one was with Kobi Halperin for Spring 2022 collection to benefit the LLCS charity group. And it was a tremendous success.
My next project will be with the Los Angeles-based designer Micheal Costello who recently launched his very first collection at Saks Fifth Avenue! I have been a big fan of Micheal since Project Runway; and when I first met him at Saks, he was very humble, kind and supportive! I am very excited and I look forward to our next big project together!! Stay tuned for more info on my IG @styledbysherene.
