Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharath Yerra.
Hi Sharath, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I work as a cinematographer. I studied at the New York Film Academy. I’m originally from Hyderabad, India, which is known for its big film industry.
When I was a kid, I lived in a place called Film Nagar. I used to watch film shoots and visit studios with my parents. That’s when I got really interested in movies. I was fascinated by the whole process and all the hard work that goes into making them.
But because my dad had a government job, we had to move away from Hyderabad for a while. School and life got in the way, and I kind of forgot about my love for movies.
Later on, I came back to Hyderabad and ended up in Film Nagar again because that’s where our house was. That’s when my passion for filmmaking was rekindled. I finished my education in Business Management, which actually turned out to be quite useful.
I started working for a company that created content for YouTube. It was a great learning experience and helped me get more into the media world.
After that, I started making short films with my friends. One of them even got selected for the Indian Film Project and was shown on MTV. That was a turning point for me. I realized I needed to take my skills to the next level.
So, I made the big move to Los Angeles to pursue my dreams in the world of cinema. Today, I continue to work as a cinematographer, bringing my unique perspective and experiences to the industry. It all started with my childhood fascination in the streets of Film Nagar, Hyderabad.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I moved around a lot during my childhood, but I truly believe that everything happens for a reason, and I ended up exactly where I was meant to be.
I studied Business Management, which might seem unrelated to filmmaking. Originally, I was planning to start my own business and enter the corporate world. However, life had other plans for me.
It took me a bit longer to realize it, but I eventually understood that filmmaking was my true passion. So, I decided to come to Los Angeles to chase my dream. There were some delays because of the COVID-19 situation and a personal loss, but I stayed determined and made the move.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m primarily a cinematographer, and I also specialize in color grading. In addition to cinematography, I often take on roles as a 1st AC (Assistant Camera) and Gaffer in film projects.
What sets me apart is my approach to lighting and camera movements. I’m known for leaving no room for compromise in any aspect of my work. I believe that attention to detail is essential in creating exceptional visuals. My expertise in color grading is one of my strongest assets. I’m meticulous about understanding the director’s vision and ensuring it’s translated effectively into the project.
I take pride in my work on two major projects: “The Creatures of The Night” and “The Serene Places Where The Stars Poop.” Both of these projects are currently in the post-production phase.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
