Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarina Lowe.
Hi Sarina, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My name is Sarina Lowe and I started dancing when I was three years old, from the very first ballet/tap class I took I knew immediately that I wanted to be a dancer. Growing up, I was on my dance studios competition team and competed multiple dances each year even competing at nationals. When I was old enough to go on pointe I grew more serious towards ballet, I joined a local ballet company and started going to summer intensives. Going out of state each year to train with the best ballet companies in our country. Eventually I moved to the top tier of the local ballet company and started becoming a working dancer. I was taking any and all classes outside of my usual to get as much training as I could. In high school I went to a charter school so I could go to LA and take classes during the school week. I was able to join another dance company in LA booking gigs every month with them. Being in a top ballet company was a dream of mine, but I had a hard time leaving behind that commercial dance part of me so I decided to keep training and auditioning in LA for everything I could. I started teaching at my hometown studio and fell in love with teaching the next generation of dancers. Eventually COVID hit and teaching online was the new normal. When things were slowly getting back to normal I was able to teach at multiple studios in Los Angeles and made so many new connections with great people. Keeping up with the auditioning, taking classes, and teaching I found my way to the Toledo Show and a part of companies that have dancers for extravagant parties and events. I’m grateful and excited for the new opportunities that dance has brought me this year and know that it is only the beginning.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Biggest challenge along my journey has been getting back into everything after COVID. A lot of things were different and it was slow getting back into how things used to be
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a dancer and a dance teacher. What I am most proud of is my ability to be open and willing to be out of my comfort zone.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Marquee Tv on Apple TV has so many ballets and other documentaries on art I love to put it on and get inspired.
