Today we’d like to introduce you to Ruthie Garibay.
Hi Ruthie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
The story of Feisty Heart roughly began around 2011. We met while playing in another band and quickly became writing and life partners. A large chunk of our songs were written in a 100 year old beach shack in Venice Beach. With Ruthie on guitar, vocals and keys and Stuart on percussion, bass and synth, Feisty Heart evolved into a genre-blurring duo that lives at the crossroads of dream-pop, Americana, folk and soul. Our songs blend storytelling, musical precision, and soulful warmth that is anchored by rich vocal interplay and organic rhythms. For over a decade we’ve played in venues across Southern California and up and down the West Coast.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Other than figuring out how to pay the bills on a regular basis throughout the years, our biggest struggles definitely revolved around the pandemic, as well as having to move twice within the last 3 years. When live music shut down during the pandemic, we started to explore midi sounds. As our music evolved from mostly analogue to now including midi, we still haven’t figured out how to perform them in a live setting. It’s hard trying to convince people to join your band these days without be backed by a label or a trust fund. So, if you know anyone, please let us know 🙂

We are musicians and we specialize in authentic songwriting.
People recognize our music by Ruthie’s understated guitar parts and unique vocals, as well as Stuart’s engaging rhythms and fun stage presence.
Right now, we are most proud of releasing six songs within the last year (and one more one the way.)
I think what sets us apart is that each of our songs sound unique from one other, while also still sounding like Feisty Heart
Who else deserves credit in your story?
Beyond the support of all our friends, family, and fans we’ve made along the way, Chad Gordon mixes all our songs and plays a huge part in helping push songs over the finish line.
