Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca Romero.
Hi Rebecca, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
In 2017, I graduated from Azusa Pacific University with a BA in Graphic Design – my focus in design became brand identities and UI/UX design. After college, I had the opportunity to associate shoot weddings and that’s where I began my business in the creative field. I was a wedding photographer for 5 years and had the opportunity to travel the world and capture weddings and brands. My business took me to incredible places such as Italy and Jamaica. In 2021, I decided to pivot my business and take it back to my roots: branding and website design. I created a branding and design studio, Studio Atelier. I specifically saw a need for brand and website design in the creative / wedding industry, and with my background as a wedding photographer, I was able to transition into creating for other creatives. Over the last year, I’ve been able to create over 30 brands/websites, created a team behind Studio Atelier, started educating creatives on branding and business, and partnered in business with my fiancee.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The creation of Studio Atelier has been the most rewarding journey but also the most challenging. After creating a successful destination wedding photography business, pivoting to a completely new business was incredibly hard. I basically had to start from scratch with new marketing strategies, new clientele, etc. On top of this, my fiancee, Marcello, and I were learning to navigate business together. I was running my own business for five years at this point, and Marcello was working a 9-5 job in the healthcare field – there were a lot of new challenges that came with working together and the roles each of us would play. We’ve been working together for about eight months now, and I can confidently say that I wouldn’t trade it for anything. We get to decide the kind of life we want to live and go out and work for it hand in hand. We get to choose projects we take on together and we never have to go our separate ways to work for someone else. We get to create our own dreams and that’s something we’ll never take for granted.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Our studio specializes in brand and website design and brand photography and videography. I have a deep passion for creating designs that represent you + your brand, so you can focus your time and energy on what means the most to you. With a background in graphic design, web design, and social media design, my goal is to help others create a cohesive brand that they can be 100% proud of – one that stands the test of time and resonates with who they are and the values they have.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
As a business owner, I have ALWAYS been a risk-taker. I wholeheartedly believe that, as an entrepreneur, you have to be willing to take risks in order to grow. One of my favorite sayings is, “The greater the risk, the greater the reward”, and this is incredibly true. In the beginning of this year, I stopped booking weddings and transitioned fully into brand and website design. This was the biggest risk I’ve taken to this date. A lot of people around me asked me “Why”. “Why would you give up a successful business”, “Are you sure?”, “Why not just do both?”. I could have done both wedding photography and design, but I knew that my passion was rooted in helping other entrepreneurs create a brand that resonates and converts. I let go of a six-figure business that I built on my own and began building a business from scratch again. The process of creating a completely new business has been a challenge in itself, but I completely believe that in order to get your business to the next level, you have to give something up; you have to make space to grow. That has been the mentality behind the transition in business this year.
