Today we’d like to introduce you to Paige Marinelli.
Paige, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My interest in photography began at 12 years old when my best friend and I would recreate photoshoots we found in fashion magazines, crafting our outfits from thrift store finds and using our backyard and bedrooms as our set. At the time, I was fascinated by the idea of creating imaginary worlds and realities.
Later in life, I learned film photography and, on a road trip, shot many beautiful landscapes. This time, I fell in love with photography for a different reason—it was about connecting beauty to the real world rather than creating an imaginary one.
Now I shoot an array of subjects, but the story I tell can be clearly seen through all of my shots.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Nothing good comes from a smooth road. I believe that as artists, we often feel we should create all the time. However, I believe we create our best work when we take time to actually experience the world and not just observe it. The photos I take today are a result of the life I’ve lived, my changing perspective and taste, and the many mistakes I’ve made along the way.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar with what you do, what can you tell them about what you do?
Today, my work primarily focuses on a plant-based mission. My hope is to tell a story of a forward-thinking movement through the lens of nostalgia.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Living in our current world of fast and short content, I see the opposite movement bubbling up strongly—the slow and thoughtful. Film has emerged from being a niche indie movement to the mainstream, and I believe that this movement will only continue to strengthen. People will grow tired of quick fixes and want to consume art that’s meant to last.
