Today we’d like to introduce you to Paige Fernandes.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
When I was younger, I really struggled with social anxiety, so much so that I couldn’t even raise my hand and answer questions in class. When I was eight years old, my parents decided to sign me up to be in a summer play at our local community college because a friend of theirs’ told them it would help with my social anxiety. They were right. I did my first play, Thumbelina, and continued to do theatre throughout middle school and high school. When I graduated high school, I knew that I wanted to act, acting was the only time I didn’t feel anxious. I attended my local community college (the same one I did my first play at) and became theatre major. My life completely changed there. I took an improv class where I was first introduced to stand-up comedy. After that, I started taking stand-up classes in Sacramento and started going to open mics. Then I moved to LA to become an Acting for Film major at New York Film Academy and I’ve continued to do stand-up all over the area.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
One of my biggest struggles has been my anxiety because oftentimes, it keeps me from doing things, even the things I love. There have been lots of times where I’ve wanted to go to an open mic but didn’t because I let my anxiety get in the way.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a stand-up comedian, comedy writer, and actress. My main focus has always been on my comedy because it is truly my passion and what I excel at the most.
I’m most proud of my stand-up and the pilots that I’ve written because it takes a lot of work and dedication, not just talent.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
My family matters the most to me because they’ve always been extremely supportive of me and they are always there for me. I’m extremely grateful that they approve of and support my comedy career as much as they do.
