Today we’d like to introduce you to Pablo Robin.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was born and raised in San Diego, California. Ever since I can remember, I’ve been interested in the ocean. The first camera I ever picked up was a GoPro to shoot photos of the curl of the wave. Then, it slowly snowballed into shooting long exposures of the night sky with a DSLR camera. Photography was my first love. Then, I decided I wanted to compile a book of my photographs. Thus, my graphic design journey was born. I started with a style that just blended text and image, and it helped me get into my dream school, Art Center College of Design. I am now about to graduate with a BFA in graphic design.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The pandemic definitely was a huge roadblock. I had to really alter my mind from being in quarantine for months and start actually working again. The hardest part for me was not being physical.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My favorite thing to do is create collages. I feel like using physical tools to convey a message through design is much easier for me. I feel proud because I create unique images with images that weren’t found on google. It allows me to be me more when I am using unique work to tell a story. I feel more authentic when I create this way. I am able to bring this technique into my branding and publication work elevating it with originality.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Probably when my best friend and I would make spoof short films. My favorite film we made was probably a Batman spoof, which was great because I had a really high voice, and I tried to sound like Batman, which was impossible.
