Today we’d like to introduce you to Ozz Gold
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey with music goes back to elementary school when I was part of a pop-punk band, playing guitar and singing. Music was definitely a first love of mine, but as I got older, I needed to focus on academics, and my time for music gradually slipped away.
In middle school, something else ignited a passion in me—learning about U.S. history made me feel deeply grateful to be a first-generation American, and I set my sights on serving in the military. In high school, my goal became clear: I wanted to attend the United States Military Academy at West Point. In 2017, I began basic training at West Point, and after four challenging years, I graduated in May 2021 and was commissioned as an officer in the Air Force set to be a pilot.
But life threw me a curveball during flight training when I was suddenly struck by intense vertigo and balance issues. Months of testing revealed I had Meniere’s disease, and I was ultimately medically discharged from the Air Force. As difficult as this was, it became a blessing in disguise. This unexpected shift gave me the chance to fully dedicate myself to music. While in the military, I’d already released six singles, and my passion for music was only growing stronger with each day. So, when I transitioned out, it felt like the perfect handoff into a new chapter. Since leaving the military last year, I attended ICON Collective to refine my skills, and now my focus is on releasing my music and getting ready to start touring.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My journey hasn’t been a smooth one, but I’ve grown to appreciate the struggles along the way. At West Point, my peers and I went through rigorous summer trainings and harsh winters, which was especially rough for me being from southern California (lol). Then, after graduating, my path took an unexpected turn with my diagnosis of Meniere’s disease. I had spent almost half my life working to reach that point, only to see everything I’d worked for crumble before me. For the first time, I was truly scared for my health—I couldn’t walk or see straight for the first few weeks. But I believe everything happens for a reason. Those experiences brought me back to music, and now I’m so grateful for the work I do, not only because it’s more fun but because I feel I can make a greater positive impact on the world through my music.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I create uplifting dance music blending tropical and progressive house with deep emotion and lots of energy.
Right now, I’m super proud of my ‘Billie Eilish – Birds of a Feather’ remix on. It really captures my creative essence and the inspiration I put into my music.
What sets me apart? I’d say it’s my work ethic, shaped by my military background, which keeps me disciplined and grateful. Coming from such a different line of work, I have a unique perspective on the music industry. My mission is to make music that uplifts and inspires people 🙂
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
One key piece of advice is to join a community. For me, attending ICON Collective was a game-changer. I found my tribe there, and the built-in mentorship within the collective was invaluable. So, my top tip is to find a community you can connect with. From there, mentors often emerge naturally.
Also, don’t underestimate the power of reaching out directly. Cold emailing or messaging people on Instagram can be effective. The worst they can say is no, and you might be surprised by how many are down to offer advice or guidance.
