Today we’d like to introduce you to Olivia Buckle.
Hi Olivia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Being a performer has been what I’ve wanted to do my entire life. The means in which it was my career has fluctuated but has always remained consistent. I started as a professional dancer, performing on cruise ships, etc. From there I started teaching, which is where I found my love for choreographing. This held my sole focus for five years, choreographing and teaching. After sustaining an injury in 2014, I knew a change was in the near future, so I slowly transitioned into the world of acting. Learning how to use my voice and apply my skillset from dance to theatre.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Is a life filled with ambition, determination and risk taking ever smooth? No. Rejection, personal letdowns, financial strain, difficult decisions, it always pushes one outside their comfort zone but inevitably produce growth.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Currently, I am really excited for the upcoming 6 months. I have 4 (!!!) movies coming out that will be available to stream or watch through cable TV. December 9th, “Looking For Her” hits Tubi, Amazon Prime and YouTube. This film is dear to me as the writer/director is a close friend of mine. Alexandra Swarens cast me in her first feature film back in 2018, where she had a strong vision which resulted in a relatable holiday romance/drama that has a strong following of fans. So she’s back with a new film with a totally different tone! It feel good, adorable and makes you giggle — and maybe shed a tear. In January, “Toxic Impulses” hits Amazon Prime, which I am excited about. This is a mystery/thriller with a film noir twist filmed throughout LA. It makes you think of how far one will go to protect someone they love. Two others are still in post-production so I can’t say much, but I’ll be sure to share on my site/IG when I know!
One thing that I love so much about my work is the people and relationships I get to build from working on various projects. I’ve made great friends, got to support their projects, and been part of a wonderful community of creative people here in LA. I think that’s so important to keep you grounded and optimistic in this industry that can be quite overwhelming at times.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I think for anyone who has left their small hometown and moved to Los Angeles or NYC — that is the BIGGEST risk you can take! Everything after that? Peanuts. I moved to LA with not a lot and it was truly sink or swim. I worked so hard to swim — and I did. When times are tough, work is slow, I get down on myself, I really do remind myself of how I was when I moved here. That was tough, this little blip is nothing. And I don’t think we give ourselves enough credit for that big risk, as artists. We moved here! The risk was that. Now… we are just doing exactly what we came here to do.
