Conversations with Neska Rose

Today we’d like to introduce you to Neska Rose.

Neska Rose

Hi Neska, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
LIBI: Since I can remember, Neska and I have been exposed to all kinds of music thanks to our mom. As early as two years old, we would perform along to music videos from the Beatles to MIKA to Shakira. We started playing piano at 5 years old. I stuck with it while Neska was waiting for the day she could switch to guitar when her fingers wouldn’t be so tiny. Fast forward to 2017, Neska began writing songs and immediately asked me to form some sort of a duo. I refused out of mere stubbornness until a couple of years later when she convinced me to sing one song with her at one of her gigs. “Not so bad”, I thought. Eventually, I studied harmonies and began taking vocal lessons myself. Now, with the accompaniment of my keyboard, Neska and I have been performing consistently around LA (most frequently at Hotel Cafe) under the name “Neska Rose.”

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
NESKA: It definitely hasn’t been smooth, but that’s why we’ve kept going. Libi and I are learning ourselves, on stage, how to approach things, and how to let the audience in when they’re first introduced into our act. It’s a learning journey, not a struggle, but it’s a responsibility that I always have to cherish.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
LIBI: In our musical act, Neska and I work together to create our own artistic world to invite people into. Neska molds and writes all the songs, and things come to life when we perform together. We make music for the purpose of storytelling. That’s what we specialize in storytelling, which is why we write scripts and hone our storytelling abilities, not just in music.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
NESKA: Our mom is our biggest, everything. She raised us independently, and ever since we can remember, she has given us the tools to find our passion very early on. She never pushed us to do anything, but when she recognized our talent in something, she supported us in every way. Our mom is also our creative director – we work with her very hands-on. With her background in entertainment, she’s our acting coach, on and off set. Our mentor, our special guiding light.
