Today we’d like to introduce you to Milan Tiff.
Hi Milan, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Started life as a disabled child. Born (1949 in Cleveland, Ohio) with Polio- Osgood Schlatter’s disease (a paralysis crippling disease) wore hip to ankle leg braces. Didn’t walk correctly until 10 years old. I eventually recovered to later become an Olympic Track and Field Hall of Fame World Record athlete. My career in Art started very young. Having received a scholarship to attend The Cleveland (Ohio) Museum of Art’s life drawing class at the age of five. Which led to scholarships to study at The Cleveland Institute of Art, Miami University of Ohio, and UCLA. Specializing in Medical Illustrations, Painting, and Art Restoration.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The rewards and challenges in Art, has always been getting in the door and establishing yourself as an Artist. A lucrative ancient-year-old business (from shows, sales, to auctions, etc.) controlled by an elite group of people, we would call, “the little finger on the hand” and the jealousies that come along with having “God” given talent.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a conceptual artist that comments socially on, science, religion, and politics. I try and make visible what the eye can’t see. To be original. Being natural is the science of nature. Example. Once a person asked me, why are there none of your paintings hanging in your home. My reply was, “Because, I didn’t want to influence myself”.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I read the daily (The Los Angeles Times) newspaper. My favorite section being the Obituary. Every single human being on this planet is somebody. Who were they? What did they do? How old were they? How did they die? Did something kill them? Or did they simply pass away?
