Conversations with Milkado

Today we’d like to introduce you to Milkado.

Hi Milkado, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Back in 2019, I attended my first rave which was LED anniversary and I got to see my fave DJ RL Grime perform. After that, I was hooked on being a DJ. I bought my own controller and started making my own mixes. When I first started, they weren’t going anywhere. I was only doing it for fun until the beginning of 2020 I released a mix tape called Ascend Eye Tour (Milkado Remake) which got a lot of views. Moving forward to 2021 during the covid era I made a mixx series called Always & Forever. Which allowed to express my sad boi and bass-heavy sets. I also joined a team called HB Entertainment. Is a company founded by Andrew Ha. His company gave me a platform to progress my DJ skills and learn a lot of valuable lessons in this industry. Joining team Hb even allowed me to play live shows that I thought were only dreams to me. My first show I done for HB Entertainment was at Legacy Oc. Let me tell you I had the crowd heading and dancing during my set that made me feel that I want to continue this music journey and since then I was able to go on tour and hit over 100k listeners. After all, this started my own collective called Kazu Collective. Which gives opportunities to like-minded individuals to grow and share their passion as DJ and make a name for themself.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely was a smooth road because at first I was all on my own and had to teach myself how to DJ when I first started there is a lot of mixes that I have taken down because they weren’t good enough but ever since I joined Hb Entertainment it been a lot smoother because they are my family and I have a very good support system to progress my confidence and my DJ skills.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Being and Asian American DJ is very hard; there not a lot of us in this industry because our parents wanted us to grow up being doctors, lawyers, or engineers. So going out the side the box and doing my passion as an elm DJ was tough. But I’m proud of this mix called Always & Forever. That mix series got me to who I am and was able to connect with my fans all over the world. The one thing that sets me for everyone else is I’m very passionate about I do and always work hard. I believe in the saying “trust the process”. That saying holds deep to me because I could’ve given up long ago but I kept believing in myself and my team to get me to the goal I want to achieve in life.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Advice I can give is trust your work and trust why doing this for me its never about the fame, it’s about expressing who I am and being able to connect to individuals through music.
