Hi Michelle, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
My journey commenced in 2006, amidst the fervor sparked by the release of “Ice Age: The Meltdown” in Chinese cinemas, leaving an indelible mark on my high school self. Driven by the allure of the burgeoning realm of 3D animation, I set my sights on the United States upon graduation. Simultaneously, James Cameron unveiled “Avatar,” a cinematic marvel brimming with revolutionary visuals, coinciding with my enrollment as a freshman in 3D animation at the Savannah College of Art and Design. Following the completion of my studies there, I honed my craft in animation with a cinematic focus at the esteemed University of Southern California.
Post-graduation, I immersed myself in the advertising domain, specializing in visual and motion design. Swiftly, I found myself engaged in a plethora of remarkable projects, including crafting the 2019 Super Bowl Ad for Skechers. Amidst these endeavors, my intrigue in project orchestration burgeoned, propelling me towards the realm of production. Collaborating with renowned award-winning director Chenglin Xie on a project for Tencent. I subsequently assumed the role of producer for his independent animated short film, “Meal On The Plate,” premiering at the Sundance Film Festival in 2022.
Since then, my trajectory has been characterized by a relentless pursuit of innovation, encompassing IP development, scriptwriting alongside The Anymation Company, QIANYI Investment Group, and co-founding MXM Global Productions. Spearheading diverse projects ranging from feature films to web series and independent shorts, I have endeavored to leave an indelible mark on the cinematic landscape.
With the advent of AI permeating society, I embarked on a voyage of exploration, delving into its applications within the realm of filmmaking. Collaborating with Oben AI Lab and visionary directors Robert Stormberg and Amy Vavrunek, I delved into this uncharted territory. Subsequently, joining the +O production team with eminent director Momo Wang, I contributed as a production designer to an array of projects, including the eerie AI short film “Buddha’s Handbook” and the recently unveiled sci-fi masterpiece “Winged.”
Presently, I am deeply engrossed in producing web series for Shorttv whilst actively facilitating cultural exchange initiatives between China and the United States. Embarking on a collaborative endeavor with a Hollywood studio, we endeavor to produce a groundbreaking China-US co-production feature-length live-action film. Stay tuned as our narrative unfolds!
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Navigating my journey has been akin to traversing a dynamic landscape punctuated by both seamless progression and formidable challenges. Initially, the path appeared relatively straightforward—I swiftly transitioned into the industry, commencing my professional trajectory a mere fortnight post-graduation, and delved into projects that ignited my passion. Yet, as I journeyed further, I encountered the nuanced complexities inherent to the industry.
On one hand, the evolving industry landscape presented an array of uncertainties and hurdles, necessitating adaptability and resilience. Concurrently, my personal aspirations burgeoned, compelling me to assume increasingly substantial roles within my career trajectory.
The pursuit of loftier objectives inherently demands perseverance and patience. I firmly believe that embracing greater challenges and assuming heightened responsibilities serves as a catalyst for personal growth, paving the way for enduring success. Amidst the vicissitudes of our industry, cultivating a mindset of innovation and daring exploration proves indispensable.
Opportunities often manifest in the most unforeseen circumstances—be it serendipitous encounters or chance engagements. Maintaining an open-minded approach to forging connections, assimilating emerging technologies, and acquiring novel insights remains paramount. While the future may elude precise prediction, arming oneself with adaptability and foresight empowers us to confront and surmount any obstacles that lie ahead.

Delving into the intricacies of my dual roles as a producer and an artist illuminates the breadth and depth of my creative pursuits. As a producer, my focal point resides in fostering cross-cultural exchange—a mission underscored by my intimate immersion in both Chinese and American societies.
Having traversed the corridors of academia and life in both nations, I’ve gleaned profound insights into the nuances and resonances that thread through these diverse cultural tapestries. This rich tapestry of experiences serves as the bedrock for my endeavors, wherein I endeavor to dismantle barriers and cultivate mutual understanding between East and West.
At present, my production endeavors manifest in the form of a captivating web series meticulously tailored for transcontinental audiences. Rooted in a beloved online IP from China, our team undertakes the formidable task of harmonizing narrative threads, ensuring seamless comprehension and resonance across cultural divides. Collaborating with adept American writers, we navigate the intricate labyrinth of cultural context, crafting a narrative tapestry that resonates universally while remaining faithful to the essence of the original storytelling.
Beyond the realm of digital storytelling, my forthcoming collaboration with a prominent Hollywood studio marks yet another milestone in our pursuit of cultural synergy. This ambitious co-production venture transcends mere content creation, delving into the practical nuances of production execution—a testament to our unwavering commitment to fostering profound cross-cultural understanding.
In tandem with my role as a producer, my identity as an artist is characterized by a harmonious fusion of tradition and innovation. At the nexus of my creative exploration lies a delicate balancing —on one side, there is my passion and dedication to traditional hand-drawn illustrations; on the other, there is my continual experimentation with the new realm of AI-assisted artistic creation.
Initially apprehensive about AI’s incursion into the artistic sphere, after careful consideration, I’ve embraced the challenge head-on to explore, immersing myself in numerous AI-related projects, spanning from multifaceted graphic design initiatives to producing two AI-enhanced short films. It is vital for me to stay rooted in traditional artistic methods while embracing the possibilities that new technologies offer. By working with proficient development teams and offering an artist’s insight into these ventures, I strive to advance the field and deliver valuable feedback that enriches the artistic environment.

Reflecting on our cityscape, I find myself enamored by its vibrant pulse—the beating heart of industry and innovation that permeates every corner. What resonates most deeply with me is the palpable sense of community and camaraderie that thrives within our city’s confines.
