Conversations with Michael Riggins

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Riggins.

Hi Michael, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
It all started with a dream is what I like to say. I always say that because for me it always comes to me in a dream then I wake up trying to figure out how to execute it. You know what your passion is because all you do is think, daydream, talk about it, and hopefully study it so you can become better at it. It gets hard but with the passion, tunnel vision and self-investment you can get it done. I know I do. It gets hard and you may question why you, why this and why that along when will it happen for me just because you want it so badly but keep moving and the why’s and when’s will reveal itself but be prepared and know you deserved it because you’ve invested and worked for it. manifestations are real but doing the groundwork is the reality of it all.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
If there’s a smooth road to do all that I love I still wouldn’t travel it just being honest. I love the trial and error along with learning what not to do, how to budget with little to no budget, how to network but not be taken advantage of or scammed so the next time I do it well. I’ve struggled with the lack of support starting out, I’ve struggled with the finances starting out and even till this day because what I love to do is costly and I’m always adding on more things which rises the cost. Overall, the journey is great because I’m a BOSS! I have no issue self-investing and making sure that Michael G. Riggins is accomplishing all the things he’s setting out to accomplish but also helping others as well which is very important to me.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I started as an Author which birth three-book Reflections of Me (2015), The Circle of Confusion (2018) and Pages Out My Journal (2020) after the release of my first book Reflections of Me I decided to go into radio because the content in Reflection of Me was always a conversation started when readers would contact me about the book. I started the “Not Playin It Safe Radio Show (2016) The Real Raw & Uncut Radio Show (2017) and Kickin it with Mike, Joey and Hollywood (2018) with the Real Raw & Uncut Show I decided to create a reality show surrounding me and a few friends called “District 202” but due to production issues, the show fell apart. I decided to end radio and move away from D.C. to Atlanta where I was able to create my very own solo reality show “All About Mike” which followed to the life of me and my boyfriend. We decided that we wanted to move to LA which sparked season 2 of All About Mike: LA which will debut in June 2021. While filming season 2 of All About Mike I decided to go into more one-on-one Interviews with the web world personalities creating a show called “Let’s Review It with Michael where I talk to and interview creatives. I will say I’m honestly proud of myself because as I say all that I’ve done I realized that I’ve accomplished more than I give myself credit for even without the big team or budget I’ve created those things for myself. Get ready for a new show by me featuring your LA LGBTQ+ family coming fall 2022 I promise once announced you’ll really believe in Michael G. Riggins Productions. It’s up and it’s stuck from here on out.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Maaaaan Woooow!! I see me creating more shows, hopefully having a full staff and team to help me. I hope to one day actually have a production studio where we can film, edit and just create great work. I see more books in the future because as I’m living and traveling on this journey I’m also gaining content to write about. I see myself winning awards and being a name that everyone knows in the industry. Once I really get to where I’m able to do much more I’m going to make sure to create some type of organization that helps black independent creatives because I know what it’s like to not have the help and I’m working hard to be in a position to help someone who’s just like me.
