Conversations with Michael Dion Jr

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Dion Jr.

Hi Michael, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I have always been the type to want to know as much as possible. By the time I was 23, I had worked at Taco Bell, I had studied to be a sommelier, I even took a job in North Dakota in the oil field. It wasn’t until I found makeup and skincare until something really stuck. It all started with drag, I found this love of transforming myself into an alien more than what most people view as “drag”. I wanted to express a part of myself I was never allowed to participate in. I then found myself taking on makeup jobs, etc and as a makeup artist, I found the gift of getting to make people feel beautiful. While I was working at a makeup store, I began making content on Tiktok, where I would discuss my take on hot makeup trends, items and brands. My page has now transformed over the years into a little space where my followers can gossip and gap about upcoming makeup and debunk the myths of skincare. As for where I am going, I hope to continue making content and sharing my ideas with the internet. I recently launched a small handmade brand called @ritual13apothecary. If you’d like to see it, check out our Instagram for the locations where it is sold in Orange County!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Three years ago, I was homeless, and when I was diagnosed with HIV during that time I made a promise to myself to get out of my situation. It has been such a hard journey of healing the traumatized parts of myself but it has made way for so many great opportunities.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Seeing as I am always studying and learning makeup and skincare isn’t the only thing I do. I actually have a whole life outside of it that I don’t share with my following. I am actually a full-time Medium, Meditative Guide, and Tarot Reader. I have always been so hesitant to share and blend these two parts of my life with fear of rejection but I feel like it is time to share this. I help people whose loved ones have passed. It is a gift that I began to sprout as a makeup artist, I would randomly ask people about past loved ones and let them say what they needed to heal. Never giving away the fact that I was in contact with them the whole time.

In makeup I am known for my honest, simplistic view, always letting my clients and my followers know that their true beauty lies within and I feel like that translates in my Mediumship. Reminding people about the things in life that we are meant to love, like ourselves.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
When I was younger, I would sneak into my mom’s bathroom to wear her makeup, now this was HEAVILY frowned upon in my family. I would go in there and try to make my makeup look as natural as possible but in turn, I would come out looking like a ghost. I’ve always had a fascination with making makeup look like skin and I love to look back at that.
