Today we’d like to introduce you to Melany Toujas.
Hi Melany, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
When I was 11 and convinced that I would become a sport journalist or astronaut, Michael Jackson passed away, 2 days before my birthday and at a time I had ticket to see him on stage. This ruined my dream but also created my purpose. After that moment I really thought about my futur and it took me 2 years to realize that I was born to make MUSIC. I started singing at 13 Despite facing challenges with my vocal cords, which affected my ability to reach my head voice, Melany overcame these obstacles through years of rehabilitation and hard work. This journey enabled her to start composing her own songs and pursue her career with vigor. I’ve always been aware of the planet and always wanted to do music that is involved in great cause. After being graduated from high school I did a master of performing arts in cannes in order to make my dream of going to the US someday come true, after my graduation and couple of lockdown due to covid pandemic I finally went to the US to introduce my new music genre ECO-POP in 2022.
Making music has always been a way for me to
share a message, This is why in 2020 I created the very first eco-Friendly concert concept. The idea is quite simply : do a classic world tour while reducing the carbon footprint as much as possible.
To do this, it uses various biosourced and recycled production materials, but also a low power consumption system.
In 2022 She turned Pop music into Eco Pop by using flowers and tree sounds.
For example, in my single “Starlight,” I used a lemon tree as a lead instrument, converting its electrical variations into MIDI tracks. This concept adds a distinct depth and meaning to my music, combining her love for nature with my artistic expression.
in 2023 “Starlight” was balloting for the Grammys and I started meeting important people of the music industry that lead me to move in the US in 2024 for good.
ECO POP quickly caught the attention of the industry and I was recently invited By Sony to be part of their Immersive creator Event.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
When I started middle I was diagnosed with ADHD so my scholarship was really weird, since it was really unknown at that time some of my teacher didn’t really care.
it also led to a lot of bullies from other students and my high school scholarship was really hard, I always thought it was my fault that I was to eccentric or to hyperactive. I wasn’t really noticing it was jealousy at that time.
People were making fun of me singing and my voice, using my favorites singers like Justin Bieber to create fake videos of insults and saying he’ll never care about my music, but instead of discouraging me it made me want to me better and work harder.
And I also had to go through rehabilitation with my vocal chords due to stretch marks. Everything was made for me to give up but I never did. I never stopped working.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a singer songwriter, composer and dancer. I stands out for my commitment to eco-responsibility in my music and art.
I have a unique approach to music, blending pop with eco-friendly themes, a style I term “Eco Pop.” I utilize natural elements like trees and plants in my music. For example, in my single “Starlight,” I used a lemon tree as a lead instrument, converting its electrical variations into MIDI tracks.
And I used the same process in all of my latest release : “Fake friends” uses the lemon tree variations by night, “FIREFLIES” uses the variations of a river, “DOWN” uses the variations of a Rose tree, and my latest release that came out on march 28 called “DARK” uses roses too.
This concept adds a distinct depth and meaning to my music, combining my love for nature with my artistic expression.
My eco-responsibility extends beyond my music to my live performances . I aim to present eco-responsible concerts, an idea that garnered attention and collaborations with notable producers. My vision includes integrating environmental consciousness into the music industry more broadly, hoping to inspire others in the field.
I’m really proud of the fact that I caught the attention of the American music industry, it’s an honor for a French woman like me to be recognize in the country of my favorites artists.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My whole childhood was a good memory. I was born in a family house in a small town of the French Riviera, my parents and I were really close to each others, I remember that in the weekends we were cooking and dancing at noon.
I was good at ski, I even almost got selected to be a pro for Olympic Games but I said no cause I wanted to sing, but my whole childhood was going to ski with my parents in the weekends, listening to Michael Jackson and David Guetta in the car.
I also did a lot of car travel around France with my dad for his work and saw a lot of amazing places.
My parents always made everything for me to feel good and loved and they are the most important memories of my childhood .
