Conversations with Maria Ferrer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maria Ferrer.

Hi Maria, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I am a vocal coach with my own business Queen Vision Entertainment that I started 14 years ago. I work with singers of all ages and musical genres. I have such a passion for music and it has poured over into my social media accounts. I started making Tik Tok & Instagram Reels about my love for the 90s and y2k era in music and the videos went viral. It is fun showing the side of myself as a millennial mom who loves to clean while listening to 90s R&B. I have a lot of fun creating content and being authentically myself.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I have always had a love & hate relationship with social media. It can be a great thing! You get to meet people from all over the world. I get messages daily from people telling me my videos brought them so much joy and laughter especially during these challenging times. And then sometimes you get the trolls who criticize everything you do but you have to remember if they don’t know you personally, don’t take it personally. Their opinion doesn’t matter. It took me some time to find my niche. In 2020, I took a year-long break from social media. I was doing plus size fashion prior and it wasn’t quite fulfilling my desires or passions. Once I took some time off and reevaluated my brand, I came back even better!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I created my vocal coaching business 13 years ago. I have such a deep passion for music and the arts so I decided it would be so fun to give it a try to teach lessons. My youngest student is five years old and my oldest student is 75! It is never too early or late to set a new goal for yourself. I have worked hard at building my company and am proud of the business I created. This is a company I made by myself, no help. A one-woman show, very proud of that. I am also known for my millennial nostalgia videos on Instagram and Tik Tok. I started making videos one year ago. In April of 2021. I had 5000 followers prior and within a year hit 300K followers on Instagram and 100K on Tik Tok. It has been so fun creating content about the way millennials grew up. I also have created my own podcast “The 90s Homegirl Podcast” where I discuss topics about leveling up, self-improvement, mom life, finances, and ways to be authentically you.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I love to listen to motivational videos on YouTube every morning. It gets my day started right! Getting up early, making my bed, getting fully dressed, writing down my task for the day, and having a clear vision for my goals. I love listening to the likes of Eric Thomas and Les Brown. I use the tools I have learned in my own podcast “The 90s Homegirl Podcast” and hope my listeners get the same motivation! I also love to listen to audiobooks! My current listen is “You are a Badass” by Jen Sincero. I have read the book a few times already but always get something new from it.
