Today we’d like to introduce you to Marc Perez
Hi Marc, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was primarily self taught until I went to college and from there through guidance and good fortune I’ve been able to make a name for myself not only as a instrumentalist but an artist in general as well.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The difficulties have been immense. From financial worries to personal struggles it’s always been tough to manage.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My performance practice focuses on the trombone in all improvisation settings. Much of my compositional work focuses on efficient access to sonic information via non normative music notation as well as an emphasis on musically expressing narratives surrounding BIPOC, such as myself. My main artistic practice focuses on the hybridization and blurring of lines for composition & improvisation.
