Conversations with Malcolm Mafei

Today we’d like to introduce you to Malcolm Mafei

Hi Malcolm, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
While I’m enchanted by the world of music, I remember my parents telling me stories about me humming tunes as early as five years old, but my conscious journey as a singer began when I was 7 or 8. I would sing out loud my favorite songs with much passion, unaware that this would one day become my career.

Fast-forward to the COVID-19 pandemic, when karaoke sessions with family became a staple of our lockdown routine. It was during this time that I discovered my knack for writing music, with my dad’s guidance and support. Together, we crafted melodies and lyrics that resonated deep within me.

Little did I know, this creative outlet would be the catalyst for my big break. I received an invitation to audition for a prestigious agency in Canada, and with much excitement, I took a leap of faith. The audition was a success, and I was cast by the agency.

My manager, impressed by my talent, introduced me to a renowned producer. With no backing tracks or instruments, I sang acapella, pouring my heart and soul into the performance. The producer was captivated by my raw talent and decided to work with me.

Two years of dedication and hard work culminated in the release of my debut single, “Only Girl,” in the summer of 2023. The response was overwhelming, and I followed it up with a few more singles, each one a testament to my growth as an artist.

Now, I’m eagerly working on my 7th and 8th singles, set to release in 2025. As I look back on my journey, I’m filled with gratitude for the unwavering support of my family, the guidance of my team, my faith in God, and the passion that drives me to create music that resonates with the world.”

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
“Despite my passion and dedication to music, I’ve had many obstacles along the way. One of the most significant challenges I’ve faced is the scheduling that comes with pursuing a music career. The long drives after school with my parents to and from the studio, combined with the countless hours spent perfecting a talent can be exhausting.

But I keep reminding myself why I started making music in the first place – to share my message, my emotions, and my story with the world.

The thought of my songs being sung by many people, of my music making a difference in someone’s life, is what keeps me going. It’s the fuel that drives me to push through tough times, to persevere despite all the setbacks.

I know that the long drives and studio hours are just a small price to pay for the opportunity to share my music with the world. I know that every moment of hard work will have be all worth it in the end.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My name is Malcolm Mafei, I’m 12 years old, in 7th grade, hailing from Los Angeles. I like sports, acting and most notably, singing.

I’ve released 6 singles that are available on all platforms.
One of my biggest dreams is to have an impact on the world and bring a positive message on the middle of hard times.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I hope one day I can be able inspire people around the world to chase their dreams, just like I’m doing. I believe that music has the power to bring people together and make a positive impact on our lives.

Through my songs, I want to spread messages of hope, encouragement, and self-empowerment. I hope to show everyone that they can make a difference, no matter how young or old they are.

My goal is to be a role model and to inspire finding their own passion and to pursue it with dedication and hard work. I want to show them that with perseverance and determination, they can achieve their dreams, just like I am.

Let’s make a difference together!”
