Today we’d like to introduce you to Lycia Lamini
Hi Lycia, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Lycia Lamini i’m from Algeria north africa and i moved to france when i was 7 where i started my education and ended graduated with a bachelors degree in fashion
it was pretty natural for me because I always knew that I wanted to work in fashion and I never had this phase where I hesitate on what direction to take school carrier wise.
I didn’t really know what exact position I wanted, but I started by working in retail for fashion brands and quickly ended up working for the most famous fashion houses in the industry. I was the youngest every time and that’s why I realize that I can pretty much get anything accomplished, so I started dreaming bigger
I knew retail wasn’t for me, but it definitely was an amazing experience as far as networking and being disciplined because most of these houses are very strict,
on the side, I started assisting stylist in Paris and one day. I just decided to come to America for the first time in June 2021 and never left. it was a really big challenge for me to start from scratch with no family no friend and no job. it took me eight months to start being comfortable and build my career and my name.
I feel very grateful to see where I come from and where I got today even though I still have a lot to learn and it’s only the beginning of my journey. I still recognize everything have I accomplished and look back like wow I really did that by myself.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I wouldn’t say it’s been a smooth road because it definitely was a challenge multiple times.
when I moved here two years ago, I was spending all my money on Airbnb’s in car renting because I couldn’t lease anything and I ended up using all my savings before. I got blessed with my first retainer client.
people also was a struggle for me because the industry is hard to navigate through when you don’t have the right mentors and I didn’t necessarily have them in the beginning so I didn’t really know how to move properly, which made me make a couple mistakes that I learned from today.
at the end of the day, all these struggles that I had was part of the journey and I cherished them because they taught me how to become the stylist. I am today.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
so I am a celebrity stylist and I specialize in artists and athletes,
what I’m the most proud of is that I built myself from scratch coming from overseas,
my experience with luxury brands and my taste I feel like is what sets me apart from others because all those years working in the city of fashion gave me the knowledge and the discipline that you can’t get anywhere else I mean, it’s Paris.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned among my journey is surroundings and how important mentorship is.
I definitely believe that your surroundings define who you are and where you’re going personally, I love to be in the room where I feel like I’m the smallest because it’s gonna compare me not in a toxic way but in a way where I’m going to now push my limits to get to that level or above.
