Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindy Lin.
Lindy, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
About seven years ago, I made a pivotal decision to switch my photography gear from Canon to Sony. Prior to this, I had primarily dabbled in photography as a hobbyist. Little did I know that this change would reshape my entire creative journey. As I delved into it, I discovered a renewed passion for photography. The more I shot, the more I fell in love with the art, and the more I learned, the deeper my connection to it grew. This not only elevated my photography but also ignited a profound and enduring love for capturing moments through my lens.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My journey has been remarkably smooth, and I’m truly grateful for the opportunities that have come my way. Early on in my journey, I had the opportunity to photograph the cast of the hit Netflix show “Selling Sunset.” This experience not only allowed me to capture stunning portraits of the cast members but also opened doors to new opportunities. The exposure gained from working with the cast, led to collaborations with prominent PR companies, entertainment managers, and talent agents, which expanded my reach and clientele. As my portfolio expanded and my work gained more recognition, I had the privilege of having my photographs featured in numerous publications, marking a significant milestone in my photography career.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a passionate photographer specializing in portrait and lifestyle product imagery. What sets me apart in the realm of photography is my ability to blend the charm of everyday life with the products I capture, creating images that exude both style and authenticity. With personal portrait sessions, I really focus on connecting with my subjects, resulting in dynamic and engaging images that feel relatable and genuine.
What I am most proud of is my journey from being a hobbyist photographer to becoming a professional in this highly competitive world of photography. The privilege of working with various brands, companies, and celebrity clients has allowed me to continually refine my craft, and my commitment to capturing authentic moments in a visually captivating manner is what sets me apart. I look forward to expanding my horizons while staying true to my approach.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
For those just starting out in photography, here’s some advice and insights I’ve gathered from my own journey:
1) Practice, Practice, Practice: There’s no substitute for practice. The more you shoot, the more you learn. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes; they are valuable learning opportunities. Don’t expect to become an expert without putting in the work and mastering the fundamentals.
2) Stay Inspired: Follow photographers whose work you admire, not just for imitation but for inspiration. Attend workshops, watch tutorials, and keep creating! Don’t take so many jobs that you don’t have time to create for fun! I always needed to have my own creative shoots to stay inspired and motivated.
3) Network: Building relationships in the photography community can open doors to opportunities and collaborations. Attend photography events, join online forums, and engage with others in the field. When I first started out, I joined lots of Facebook Groups to connect with models, makeup artists, hair stylists, and other creatives. This led to a lot of fun and creative shoots that essentially helped me build a strong portfolio.
4) Learn Post-Processing: Understanding the importance of post-processing can’t be emphasized enough. It’s not just about taking a shot; it’s about the meticulous editing process that can truly make a photo stand out. Post-processing plays such a pivotal role in making your photographs truly remarkable.
5) Enjoy the Process: Above all, remember that photography is about enjoying the creative process. Don’t lose sight of the joy it brings you!
