Today we’d like to introduce you to Lamon Archey.
Lamon, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
A native of California, Lamon was raised in the Bay Area. Upon earning his high school diploma from San Mateo High, Lamon worked as a carpenter and an emergency veterinarian technician. In 2001, in search of a fresh start, Lamon moved to Los Angeles where, in less than a year, was scouted for a modeling opportunity. In no time Lamon was securing coveted jobs working for some of the world’s top fashion brands and designers including Macy’s, The Gap, Kohl’s, Giorgio Armani and Dolce & Gabbana, just to name a few.
Lamon also shot commercials for major corporations, including McDonald’s, Chase and The Gap. . In 2004, superstar Beyoncé handpicked Lamon as her love interest for the now classic Destiny’s Child music video Cater 2 U.
Lamon would then go on to start a career in acting, appearing in various sitcoms, including CBS’s 2 Broke Girls and Showtime’s Roadies, and in early 2017 Lamon joined NBC’s number one soap opera Days of Our Lives. Originating the role of Eli Grant, the first black member of the Horton family.
He now plays D’Angelo Carter on The CW’s hit show All American. Most recently tying the knot with the main character’s mother Grace James.
Off screen, Lamon takes pride in being a father to his two sons and daughter…
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s been a rollercoaster. But that’s to be expected as an actor. There are extreme highs and extreme lows. You hear “no” or nothing at all more than yes. In the grand scheme of things it’s all a blessing. . It makes you cherish the wins and strengthens you along the way. You have to be headstrong to be an actor on the grind. I once tested for a role on a show and did an amazing job! I would’ve bet the job was mine. So much so I started mentally planning for the new life this job would bring. Well, it came down to the wire and they ended up going a different direction. Everything happens for a reason. The good news is I ended up booking a job soon after. I believe what’s meant for you will be yours.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m an actor and have been for over 10 years. I’m proud of many of my accomplishments throughout my career but I take the most pride in being a father to my kids. Seeing them grow into young adults and being able to guide them in the right direction is what it’s all about to me.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I think we’ll continue to see a lot of tv series and films being streamed as opposed to movies being shown in the theater and tv shows only aired on a cable network. I’m a fan of going to the movies and enjoying that whole experience, but if I was to make a bet, I’d bet that in 10 years it will be a rare occurrence for someone to go to a theater and watch a film.
