Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyle Owens
Hi Kyle, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was in the world of professional tennis and knew that after tennis I would eventually pivot into entertainment — producing specifically — as that was always my dream from when I was a kid. In 2016 I had a chance encounter with legendary reality TV producer Eli Frankel. Eli took me under his wing and taught me every facet of the business. I can’t thank him enough! Knowing my heart was in film, I decided to start my own company, Morning Moon Productions, in 2019 with my friend Austen Rydell. Soon after that, Austen’s wife, actor Billie Lourd joined as a partner and producer. The company really took off when our partner and now CEO Ethan Lazar joined the team in early 2020 as we were developing our first feature film. WILDFLOWER is now out on Hulu and stars Kiernan Shipka and Jean Smart. We also have a music arm to our company that’s helmed by my long-time friends Dan Lotti and Mike Sivilli from the internationally recognized band DANGERMUFFIN, and Howard Dlugasch from the band Elwood. We provide original score, composition, custom songwriting, and music supervision services for film, TV, and advertising.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Every journey has its challenges and we definitely had ours as we developed and shot our first feature film during Covid and then had to endure two historic strikes after that.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Morning Moon Productions is a one-stop shop production company that develops projects from the ground up and sees them all the way through to release. We are able to finance development when needed, we are on the ground during production, and we can provide all musical services. I’m most proud of the team we have assembled. It’s a team of nine of the smartest, most talented people I know!
What does success mean to you?
I feel most successful when my stepkids do something that reflects some life lessons I’ve taught them. In business however, I feel like it’s a success anytime we are able to share stories that affect people in a positive way and make them feel true emotions.
