Conversations with Kristine Schumann

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristine Schumann.

Hi Kristine, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My name is Kristine & it’s been a little over two years since I decided to take a leap of faith & start my journey as an entrepreneur.

You might be wondering why I left the safety of my full-time job

It’s because underneath, I always knew there was more potential for my life

After graduating college & climbing the corporate ladder for 6 years, I showed up to work one day & suddenly everything was turned upside down. My boss had kept us in a constant state of fear to cover up his unethical actions, & HR had caught up with it. I learned an important lesson about integrity that day.

Restart #1 > I enrolled in yoga teacher training & found myself on a more spiritually-aligned path. I started managing studios & moved from Chicago to LA, but I still sensed there was more for me

I wanted more adventure and the freedom to travel. l wanted to help others unlock their potential.

Restart #2 > I left my studio management job. I went on a life-changing trip to Peru where I studied plant medicine & then launched my own retreat business

Just as things were starting to take shape, my personal life crumbled. I had been diminished, gaslight & abandoned by the person I loved. My nervous system was wrecked & the life I envisioned gone

Restart #3 > I left LA & moved back to Wisconsin, where I faced my dad’s alcohol abuse & realized how it affected my mom. I saw why I had allowed so much disrespect in my own relationships

It was my darkest moment & I had to face it head on

I prioritized my healing using introspection and microdosing 🍄. I was reborn AGAIN

Restart #4 > I moved back to LA & launched my coaching business. I infused the elements of teaching yoga & my retreats, with plant medicine & coaching. I now get to women use microdosing and sacred ritual to reclaim their self-worth and find true fulfillment.

I love running my own business and there’s no better feeling than seeing the transformation in my clients! I still teach yoga, run retreats, and host a monthly New Moon Flow at Sol Seek Yoga in the South Bay. I exist to create sacred spaces for people to feel seen and held.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Sometimes it feels as though life has placed an unfair burden on my shoulders. Even though I just turned 40, I feel as though I lived many life times.

I’ve experienced trauma in the major facets of life, career, partnership, and family. When my clients say, “I bet you think I’m crazy, or you’ve never heard of such things.” I always smile softly and say, actually I have.

I was able to bounce back when my first career got turned upside down and it led me to yoga. When my ex abandoned me at 12,000 feet near the top of Mt. Whitney, it was a little harder to find my way. I didn’t know he was a narcissist, but at that point I had started journaling every day. I resisted he idea that he was narcissist, but after the break-up, it felt like the universe kept sending me resources to understand it. I wouldn’t wish what I lived through on anyone.

I thought returning home to my family in Wisconsin would be the soft space to land. I had given up my dog Riley to live with my ex, and missed him every day. However, this was the point where I realized the truth about my upbringing. How my father was an alcoholic, and a narcissist, and how my mother never taught me to ask for what I needed. I screamed a lot during that time, and thought my life was over.

Looking back, it was only a year and a few months ago. But SO much has changed. I’m still healing, but I feel myself emerging into the most authentic and genuine version of me yet. Microdosing is one of the tools I used to heal my nervous system, but it’s also a struggle to work in an industry that has a pretty powerful stigma.

I still visit my family and of course my dog Riley. I know he has a good life, but I miss him everyday. My Dad continues to be a burden on my mom and my family, but I think my journey has inspired my mom to be stronger. And I’m incredibly proud of her.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’ve been teaching yoga for over nine years. My yoga career includes many roles from teacher, to program facilitator, to studio manager, and Area Manager. I’ve opened two studios in LA, Corepower Culver City and Brightside Yoga in Mar Vista. I was with Corepower through Covid and helped re-open the LA market; which was one of the most challenging times of my career. I’ve coached and facilitated 20+ teacher trainings over the years, through which I have learned the art of holding space. This served me when I launched my own retreat business in 2023. I’ve hosted four retreats in Joshua Tree, focusing on yoga, journaling, hiking and setting intentions with the moon. I’ve been working with plant medicine for roughly five years, and my journey took me to Peru to sit with ayahuasca. I’ve had about 12 large dose journeys, but the most profound transformation came through microdosing. I started microdosing and working with a mentor in September of 2023, and have since launched a business to help others start their own microdosing practice.

My work continues to take shape and I’m most excited to work with women. I’m researching and developing protocols that help women use microdosing to support their luteal phase, and host monthly new moon flows to honor this sacred cycle. It’s not necessarily about doing anything differently, but just removing all the noise that gets in the way of our true nature. With my process, women can reclaim their self worth, deepen the connection to their bodies, and trust their intuition.

What’s next?
Just touched on this briefly, but I’m planning another Joshua Tree Retreat in June. And will soon announce in-person offerings to combine microdosing with yoga.

I’m building an online container for my clients that will include weekly journaling prompts, microdosing guidelines and ways to work with the cycles (moon, season, menstrual).

I’m building a workbook to supplement the practice of daily rituals, mantras and introspection.
