Today, we’d like to introduce you to Koki Miura.
Hi Koki, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
As a kid, drawing had been the purpose of doodling what I loved and thought. I thoughtlessly put a pencil in the notebook, never to be completed.
At the end of high school, I discovered films that strongly suggested the teams of artists who supported each other to develop a new concept on the screen.
As I progressively looked into the world of cinema. Naturally, my mind grabbed attention to how to be a filmmaker. With all the support from my family and friends, I could not stand here to pursue this enormous dream with the steep road. Now, I’m filling up my sketchbooks with joy and excitement for what I can be.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story. Has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
Even though I chose this path as my career, it has never been as smooth as I thought. When I was an art student, seeing the alumni have ideal works was influential, but it had pros and cons. On a positive note, I found myself motivated to absorb art as much as possible.
However, because of the imagery of ideal figures, the reality of hardship hit me hard. All the experience made me realize that I needed to study not only art but also to be more knowledgeable about the outside of art. However, I also have high hopes and opportunities that I can go through to create what I want to create.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a visual development artist and graphic novelist. Throughout the illustration or comic, I deliver the story to the audience. As I pursue my career, I’m pondering how to get better at creating a strong narrative that corresponds with visual imagery.
One thing that fascinated and joyful me was when all the readers shared their thoughts on my story with numerous different interpretations. I am just a small artist who dreams of being the “one.” Despite the harsh reality, I felt a small triumph that people could open up their unique thoughts by analyzing my creation.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
What I learned about the most is that if you have one big goal, you sometimes miss a thousand necessities on the side. It can be something informative outside of your career that opens your perspective wider and clearer.
Or sometimes relate to your personal life that creates something unique on its own. I do not necessarily think that a successful career is the pinnacle of all the people out there in the world. Each of us had our own goals and passions. Also, we have our very own family and friends who care and support us.
Hope anyone who pursues dreams, like me, won’t forget that who’s always pushing your back.
