Conversations with Kiersten Hall

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kiersten Hall.

Hi Kiersten, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was raised in Albuquerque, NM and moved to Northern California when I was 12 years old. I always knew I wanted to be an actress/performer ever since I was three. Growing up my mother would watch The Sound Of Music almost every day and I immediately fell in love with singing and dancing.

By the age of five, I was enrolled in dance classes and vocal lessons and adored being on stage. My first play serendipitously was The Sound of Music. I was Liesel and was so excited to sing “Sixteen Going on Seventeen”. After Highschool I immediately moved to Los Angeles at the fresh age of 18 to become an actress. I decided I better go to college as well, so I got my Bachelor’s in Television and Film Theory and Criticism at Cal State Northridge. I also began modeling at this time while I was in college with NoTies Agency and Otto Models. I also had the privilege of working with Joe Palese at The Actors Studio and started to see myself as a serious actress. I became a member of SAG and got serious acting reps and started booking theatrical roles.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The decision to become an actress was always a definite one for me, no questions asked. However my father never completely understood, and that has always been a struggle for me. Luckily my mother has always inspired and pushed me to go for my dreams and that has been a major contender for me to keep going. Because no, it has not always been easy by any means. I have auditioned for so many parts and not been the choice. However, I know in my heart when I wake up in the morning and go to bed at night that acting/show biz is what I am meant to be doing and I can’t imagine doing anything else. I have heard other performers/actors say that throughout the years, you choose this life “because you can’t do anything else.” I have always resonated with this statement. I would say the fact that we are here having this human experience is a gift and experiment, so let’s just go for our wildest dreams full throttle. It’s better than doing some other mundane life and always wondering what could have happened if we were to only go for our dreams.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an actress/model/ singer. I love juicy, period-piece roles that offer me the chance to really sink my teeth in, my dream role would be the lead in a Quentin Tarantino film. The last role I had the opportunity to play was Spazor, which was the lead villain in a film called, Giantess Battle Attack. And yes the title says it all, I am a fan of campy films. And was super stoked about the fact I got to have my own personal spaceship. I also very much enjoy on-camera fight scenes some which were featured in Giantess Battle Attack, and another film I did called Kiss Kiss. I love comedy also, so when I booked a role on New Girl with Zooey Deschanel, I was extremely happy. I have had some awesome modeling opportunities, mostly in the beauty field. I would say my favorite job was being the model for Girlactik which was featured in RightAid. As far as my singing, I have done some live shows where I sing show tunes such as Diamonds are a Girls Best Friend, Dankesheon, and Blue Skies.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
My most important lesson and a lesson that I continuously have to remind myself, Is that my opinion of myself is the most important. I literally have “Know Thyself “ tattooed on my right ribs to remind myself to not look for validation outside myself. It’s not easy as an artist or even as a person living on earth to not get caught up in the opinion of others. But if I were to listen to everyone else’s opinions I would be going in a million different directions and would get swallowed up in an ocean of confusion. I have an inner voice leading me, it’s not always easy to pay attention or listen too, but the more I do, the more confident I am. I find, the more I trust myself and have confidence in my actions ,  the people around me  who have had doubts are , including my father . I always hope to inspire people to go for their wildest dreams , even though they might be scary .”
