Today we’d like to introduce you to Katelyn Mae.
Hi Katelyn , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I began my social media journey, just like any other teenage girl! I created an account to post silly and relatable videos for my friends and I. About two months into having my new account I randomly started getting views and followers. I was so thrilled when this happened so I continued my consistency and dedication to posting on TikTok, later on continuing with posting on Instagram. Since I am a social butterfly, using these platforms has been a huge highlight of my life because I love connecting, relating, and simply just having fun with others!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being a small influencer on social media has been known for many benefits, such as PR, recognition, and for some it can even be a job! I feel like all of these benefits are always looked up upon by many people, but all the struggles that come with social media influencing are overlooked majority of the time. I’ve struggled with very harsh and cruel hate comments, being critiqued on everything, people trying to figure out what school I go to, or where I live. So definitely being an online influence is not as easy as it seems. Especially as a young woman who is just beginning her career it can be damaging to my self-esteem but as I have gone along this path of being an influencer, I have learned that if people can’t say it to your face, then it shouldn’t matter what they say online!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an influencer on social media mainly TikTok. I make content of absolutely anything, from piercing my ears, to pouring my emotions out to the internet. But I mainly focus on creating my videos around my makeup routines and outfit inspiration ideas! And of course, maybe some silly videos here and there!
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was always the “funny”friend. I was the friend that was always made fun of and was considered a joke if a boy asked me out in middle school. I noticed many people assume that I have had a perfect life. But just like many other children, my parents got divorced when I was 7 years old. My mom is a single mother and I no longer speak to my father anymore. As you can imagine that was and still is a huge impact and struggle in my life. This used to bother me as a child, because I thought I missed out on a happy family life but as I grew older I have realized how proud I am of my mom and that she is the best and only mom/dad I need. So I would say compared to who I am now my life has had a big change!
