Hi Kari, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi. Im Kari Nissena. I’m a professional actress, producer, and career coach for actors. I started acting at a very young age. Growing up, all my free time was spent performing in plays, auditioning, and taking acting classes. Searching for every acting opportunity that I could get my hands on. I continued my training and worked throughout my teens and then moved to New York for intense conservatory training and work, eventually ending up in Hollywood.
As an actress, I have performed extensively on both the stage and in front of the camera. I have had the great fortune to have acted in hundreds of productions in many different areas of the industry … film, theatre, television, radio, commercials, voiceover, and more.
Once I added producing to the mix, I created dozens of films, webisodes, and other projects and events in the entertainment industry. I think every actor should take control of their career, and producing your own work is one of the many great ways to be proactive and bring your projects and ideas to fruition.
As an industry expert, speaker, and career coach for actors at Actor Transformation, I have coached/taught thousands of actors on Marketing, Press, Actor Actions, Online Presence, and much more.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
A life as an actor is both an adventure and a rollercoaster. There are twists and turns and highs and lows. And it is not designed for those with a weak stomach. Part of working as a professional actor in Hollywood, or in the entertainment industry in general, is understanding the business side of show business. Actors should know ahead of time that they can expect rejection, disappointment, and challenges. But that they can also look forward to joy, growth, and being surrounded by fun and creativity.
Artists have to build up an insurmountable fortress of reasons that they love what they do. So much so that the disappointing auditions, bad days, and rejection are no big deal. Challenges simply come with the package. A real career is based on consistently learning, growing, and improving. And finding a way to enjoy the journey.
