Today we’d like to introduce you to Kali Basman.
Hi Kali, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
In a world that is constantly defined by its state of production and progress, the art of learning Mindfulness, Yin & Restorative Yoga – foundational practices in slowing down and turning inwards, feels essential.
I started as a Vinyasa teacher at the Bhakti Yoga Shala in Santa Monica and quickly came to find my student body was in need of deeper rhythms of reset for the nervous system.
I started folding in Yin poses and my own experimentation with Buddhist philosophical & meditative principles into the practice field and found potent results in a quick turnaround. When the body gets to rest and our hearts find a way into ease, our whole life turns around very quickly.
Today I am honored to lead training and retreats worldwide which intermingle Yin Yoga, Buddhism, and Internal Family Systems Therapy.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Traveling constantly as a yoga teacher & retreat leader has created beautiful hurdles in my personal relationships which urged me to look carefully about who I kept close to me. As I evolve, my need for certain types of friendships shifts as well. It took many years for me to learn that it’s okay to let people go!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I offer Yin Yoga Teacher Trainings & Retreats for Buddhist Meditation methods as an invitation for inner work to take time away from the mundane and normative, to peel away distractions and train the heart instead. Building upon inner ritual, we enrich the connection to the inner world on retreat so that students have a direct contact with their powerful vital center wherever they go.
I apply foundational methods of Yin Yoga principles, Restorative Yoga practices, and cornerstones of Buddhist regimen to cultivate a stable centerpoint for each student to find their own unique impactful offering. Each practitioner then becomes more effective in their domain, more transformative in their potential, and more inspired in their own path of awakening.
As a teacher, I am committed to providing groundbreaking and anciently informed procedures for training the bodymind and encouraging integrated comprehensive Yin Yoga practices.
Of particular interest is that my students carve out their own dedication and discipline structures so their daily home practice continuously nourishes the creative unfolding in their teaching life.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I am also an avid rock-climber and spend my free time climbing whenever I can… I call it “vertical yoga” 🙂
