Today we’d like to introduce you to Julie Rowlands.
Hi Julie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
Far before I started Succulents by Jules, I was originally a primary school teacher in Australia. I moved to the states with my family and raised my three daughters here in LA. As they’ve grown up, I’ve reclaimed my passion for teaching and creativity which in turn, has cultivated into Succulents by Jules. My niche is succulent workshops with adults and children for private, corporate, and public events. I combine my love for teaching with my adoration of succulents by offering workshops that provide connection with others, new skills and knowledge, and most importantly: HANDS ON JOY!
Everyone leaves having created something special, feeling empowered in doing so. It is that experience that I find most rewarding.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I would say a main challenge overall has been understanding how to get the word out about my small business. While networking amongst friends is extremely helpful, I’ve found that utilizing the power of social media has been imperative in reaching a larger audience. In saying so I’ve been learning how to navigate Instagram over the past few years to better share my work and I’ve met so many new faces along the way. Moreover, I would say as a small business, figuring out what my niche was took me a while but I’m happy to say that I’ve found it in teaching workshops and connecting with others. The experience of owning a small business is a journey to say the least — full of highs, lows, imposter syndrome, etc. — however, if you can find the joy in it, I encourage you to believe in yourself and keep at it because in the end, it is so incredible to do what you love.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
