Conversations with Joy Bosley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joy Bosley. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Joy’s modeling career started in 2011 as Model Productions contract winner from Opelika, Alabama and was booked on Magic City television series that aired in 2012 on STARZ performing multiple roles under casting director Bill Marinella. Joy was booked for three months in these roles while living in Miami, Florida. After the casting came to an end, she was booked for the Susan G. Komen fashion event “love, peace & prosperity” to help raise money for the breast cancer research foundation.

Later, in 2012 her career brought her back to Alabama where she was booked as a hair model for Big Sexy Hair in Birmingham Alabama. While working in Alabama as a model at the age of 19, Joy discovered another talent agency and booked couple more photoshoots.

Though Joy had always had a passion for modeling, it was life’s obstacles that prevented her from pursuing this career early in life. By no means did that stop her from developing more skills in her journey.

Joy moved back to Florida at the age of 21 and booked a published magazine shoot with Central Florida Model Magazine in September 2016.

Late 2016 she also appeared in a music video with upcoming artist Max Prez and participated in a fashion show to help raise money to rebuild Haiti.

Family life and other obstacles have interfered with the progress of her journey in modeling.

However, that still didn’t stop her from paving her way back into the fashion industry.

By 2018 she fulfilled her studies in portrait photography and enlisted in the army.

The military stationed her in Alabama where she started locating photographers through social media. Joy has worked with many different professional photographers in North Alabama, Atlanta, Georgia and Nashville, Tennessee.

The North Alabama Meet and Greet is where she met CEO of the Royal Umbrella Nate Williams. Nate informed her of the Fashion Show and appeared as a VIP guest.

Joy attended another model call for The Royal Umbrella and was booked to walk for two of the top designers KMLA & Unreal Creations in the July 10th, 2021, Fashion show at the Omega in Huntsville, Alabama.

After attending a Model call in Nashville, Tennessee Joy was selected to walk for the Headliner of the 2021 Fall Ball 3; Miicongenteel and other top designers. She also walked in the Atlanta Fashion Show Elevation hosted by “Love is Blind” Damian Powers.

She has been published by magazines both local and international including Prestige Models Magazine in the United Kingdom and Portfolio Fashion Magazine based in Brooklyn, New York.

Joy’s interest in the fashion industry has always been a dream for her. She has worked hard to build her portfolio and has a decade of industry experience. She understands that modeling is all about business and she is taking her career more serious than ever.

Joy has traveled to many locations on the east coast of the US and just recently relocated to California. The life of an active military service member and single parenthood limits her modeling availability to weekends only, but she is hoping to dive into California entertainment market.

Since her move to California, she has walked for NYFW in February 2012 for the Beautiful You Fashion Tour and was selected to walk for The Model Experience in March 2022. Joy is an independent print and editorial runway model who has booked her own work including the recent video real with movie director Anthony Perlas, a Los Angelos film photographer. Joy will also be traveling to the Kentucky area where she was selected to attend the Fillies and Stallions Derby Eve Party on May 6th, 2022. Traveling is a big part of her world when it comes to modeling, there are no limitations.

Joy is passionate about the experience of art and creativity that the modeling industry has to offer and will receive her associate of arts degree in May 2022. Thanks to fate she has found a business partner Amber Austria to help manage her travel and booking schedule.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I must say that anything worth having is never an easy road and if I took the easy road, I would be living in Alabama working at a minimum wage job. The bumps along the way are the challenges that make you stronger, smarter and better for future opportunities.

I remember when I booked with Bill Marinella in 2011 for the first time being young and full of energy, I decided to drive twelve hours to Miami, Florida. This happened shortly after I met RITTZ the rapper at a rehab concert in Montgomery. All I had at that time was my 1991 Pontiac Sunbird Convertible and his White Jesus mix tape to listen to on the way down. The inspiration from his music inspired me to make a move. Luckily, I made the casting call and met Bill Marinella and explained how I drove far to the call. He was inspired by my ambitious drive and made sure to book me for as many roles as possible. After being booked, I was down to my last fifty dollars and found a hotel that was able to accommodate me while I worked. The struggle of this was that I was having to drive three hours to set one way every day and for three months all I had was the RITTZ mixtape to keep me company on my drive.

Now as a single parent, it can be challenging finding the right person to care for my son while I am attending model calls, but I have not allowed that to prevent me from following my passion. There are many times he has been by my side and well behaved, so I am able to attend when safe care is not an option. Another challenge is that being a service member with obligations to always place the mission first may conflict with my bookings. Recently I had to turn down five shows for NYFW in September due to an assignment I will be on during the same time frame. I am always blessed with opportunities, but I have grown to realize if it was meant for me to walk those shows then it would have worked itself out. Moving forward, I will be focused on the opportunities that are in my new area which is Los Angeles or San Diego.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Starting out as a model as an early adult, I am proud of everything I have accomplished this far. I have gained so much experience and knowledge from the past connections. I have enjoyed the support that I have received from those I worked with and to be honest, most of them are like family to me. I am known as a model and a professional who takes pride in the business of my career. The artist mentality and my experience in photography really sets me apart from others along with my military discipline and training.

As a photographer, I have really grown to respect the work that goes into the postproduction process of editing and finalizing the images so that they represent both creatives involved. The experience I have in the creative industry really compliments the business side of my military discipline. I am honored to have the best of both worlds and my goal is to show others that they can truly become anything they want to be.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
In the next few years, I plan to have a stronger network in California and eventually buy a house out here to run my business out of which would be photography and modeling. I hope to also continue to excel in my current military career and find an agency that is a good fit for me keeping me busy with model bookings. The trend that I am setting is all about positive changes and productive growth.
