Conversations with Josh Trotter

Today we’d like to introduce you to Josh Trotter.

Hi Josh, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started my journey doing video work for local bands, local venues and for friends. I saw the demand for stills so I picked up a cheap DSLR in a pawn shop to get started. Instantly I was hooked! I upgraded gear over time to get better low-light photos. Working in the music scene, I quickly made friends with artists and started doing promo shoots for them. Band photos, putting together EPKs and helped making content for social media. Over time I wanted to get into more artistic shots and started reaching out to models to collaborate with. That was just over two years ago. Now I’m a multi-published, multi-disciplined photographer and videographer.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been the smoothest ride. I’ve thought about quitting multiple times. I see other people’s work and think, I’ll never be that good. Then I realized I can’t compare the beginning of my journey to the middle or end of someone else’s. You have to do it because you love it, not because you want to please others. Make YOUR art YOUR’S!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’ve heard multiple times that I capture the moment as if you were there. That’s where I came up with my business name, Cap2red Studio. I wanted to use what I was known for but not limit myself to just stills. I’m a photographer, videographer and audio engineer!

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I feel like what has gotten me to where I am today is supportive friends, being nice and dumb luck. If you see an opportunity, don’t turn it down thinking you don’t know how to do it. Say yes! Then figure it out. You never know what you are capable of if you never try.
