Conversations with John Grigsby

Today we’d like to introduce you to John Grigsby.

Hi John, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My story started in 2019 when I decided to put my daughter in modeling, she’s the reason I do this. Around that time, I was also searching for a new hobby because I had stopped engineering music. Photography was the perfect transition because it allowed me to maintain my creativity, it just went from ears to eyes now. The switch turned out to be a blessing because I tapped into a side of me I didn’t know I had and I’ve met some really genuine people in this industry who keep me motivated. That plus my own passion and grind has put me in a position to where my work is now being seen by people whose work I’m a fan of.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of the biggest struggles along the way was finding my identity. I didn’t know who I was as a photographer or the type of photography I wanted to shoot. Once I figured that part out and stayed consistent, my career started moving forward.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in portraiture, recording engineering, and music production. I do a little bit of everything but I’m definitely most proud of my fashion photography. I still shoot everything, I just want to be in that lane.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I like that there’s so much opportunity, inspiration, and creative minds in the city. I can find something dope everywhere I go. I can’t stand flakes and snakes!
