Conversations with Jess Tims

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jess Tims.

Jess Tims

Hi Jess, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My story begins from my personal experience with infertility. My husband and I tried to get pregnant for over two years and struggled to figure out why we couldn’t conceive. Our fertility test came back normal, and our doctors prescribed “unexplained infertility” – a diagnosis that impacts about 20% of couples that are trying to conceive. I felt frustrated, confused, and embarrassed. It was one of the hardest points in my life because I didn’t feel comfortable talking about my infertility with friends or family – yet what I was experiencing was emotionally exhausting.

Our journey led us to conceive a beautiful baby boy, who was born in 2019 and is the light of our lives. Even though I had my beautiful baby, I couldn’t let go of the memory of my experience and wanted to support women who were on the same path of infertility. I decided to pursue my certification as a Fertility Doula and create a space for women to find education & support on their infertility journey.

I started Fertilityjess in 2022 and have had the honor of working with women on their own paths to pregnancy. I create a space where women are heard, seen & given the tools they need to get closer to their goal of becoming a mom, balancing their hormones, or moving forward after pregnancy loss. As I often say – I fill the gap between doctor visits & online searches – because the last thing I want is for a woman to feel alone on her journey.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Infertility impacts the body, mind & soul – and it is easy to understand why it is such a bumpy road for many couples. When you want to become a parent, you will try almost anything to make that happen, yet there is some part of the process that is out of your control. What’s more frustrating are the social structures we have around conception. Expectations from family, baby announcements popping up on social media, or the algorithm giving you advertisements for diapers – are enough to make anyone struggling with infertility go crazy.

My experience was not a smooth road. I was angry, frustrated, and very much out of alignment with myself. Yet, those low days, the nights that I woke up in tears, and the nightmares that jolted me awake for months – are all experiences that allow me to have deep compassion for women who are going through them now. Each experience with infertility is unique, but the emotions are very much the same – and my experience allows me to understand these feelings and have the capacity to hold space for them now.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Certified Fertility Doula with a master’s in communication and a passion for understanding how the mind & body are connected. I support women (and men) on their fertility journey, helping them figure out what they are missing to get & stay pregnant.

I combine the latest fertility research with holistic practices for the mind & soul to address the whole self. My goal when working with a client is to support her body while also supporting her mind because infertility can take a toll on both. I support couples with infertility, women who have experienced pregnancy loss, and women who want to be empowered in their fertile health.

What makes you happy?
I love this question because it is at the core of my work (along with gratitude). What makes me happy is seeing the relief a client feels after we work together. My work brings me so much joy and happiness because I am able to give women something I desperately need when I was in their shoes.

I believe that happiness is best when it is shared, and I have the opportunity to share in client success when they finally start to feel in control of their body, at ease in their mind, and at peace with their journey. It is such a gift to do what I do.
