Conversations with Jade Lee

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jade Lee.

Hi Jade, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was close to music all the time in my life. When I was young I was pretty good at playing keyboard so I end it up to go university with my skills. After that, I wanted to be more professional with many boundaries in music. I started to make songs in different genres for films. After I focus more in film music it was more exciting and interesting to me. All the sounds and music in various films made me feel like “this is it!”. Nowadays I call myself or introduce myself as a composer and sound designer. As with every job, there are difficulties in the job I chose. But it’s a very attractive job and I’m grateful to be able to do it.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Before committing to a career in music, I faced challenges, but the industry itself presented even more obstacles due to its high level of competition. In order to succeed, I had to push myself to the next level and work even harder.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am currently employed as both a sound designer and composer. My passion for movies and music began at a young age and I have always had a keen ear for recognizing different moods. This ability makes it easy for me to capture sounds and music that perfectly match videos and other pieces of music. One of my most recent and proudest accomplishments is the release of the ‘byvinyl ‘album ‘Snow March’ and my involvement as a Foley artist with the team ‘Amarna Empire’ on a Christmas film that aired on Hulu. I am incredibly grateful to be able to work on such diverse projects.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I suggest actively seeking out and utilizing credits in fields of interest. This is also a great way to stay informed and participate in festivals or groups related to these areas of interest.
