Today we’d like to introduce you to Hongbin Xu.
Hi Hongbin, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Since I was a kid, I have always loved to perform but I started to study music professionally at the Musicians Institute and pursue my career as a musician in 2018.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’ve been lucky enough to have had opportunities to play keys for many different artists and even produce or co-write with people. One of the biggest struggles for me is that I was introduced to contemporary music pretty late and I have to learn and pick up the music faster just so I can keep up with the people around me. It has been a tiring journey yet very satisfying.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a session musician and produce for artists in my own free time. I love to listen to different people’s perspectives and their approaches to music just so I can have a better understanding of how to blend my sound with their music. It feels amazing to see when the people I work with are happy with what I bring to the table; It doesn’t matter if it’s a little beat for me to lay some keys or a big concert gig that I play.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Over the years, I learned that I’m always leaning toward people and music. I love to talk to people and it’s even better when I can communicate with them through music. It doesn’t matter if it’s singing, dancing, or playing instruments. I think that’s why I appreciate the life that I have now. I get to do what I love as my career.
