Conversations with Henry Awad

Today we’d like to introduce you to Henry Awad.

Hi Henry, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve been playing music since I was a little kid; I grew up in a family of musicians, so music came naturally to me. At age 14, I developed a passion for sound engineering, and I was also a musician, so I decided I wanted to be a music producer; that way, I could merge both of my passions. With my dad’s help, I built a studio at our house and started recording local bands and some of my church’s projects. After graduating high school, I was sure that music was what I wanted to do and that I wanted to do it at the highest level possible. So, I moved to Los Angeles to study music production at the Los Angeles Recording School. After graduating, I entered an internship where I was lucky to meet many unique and talented people in the music industry, one of them being my now business partner Edward “E-dub” Rios. E-dub has been mentoring me since then, and he was the one who motivated me to launch my record label. Besides launching my record label, we partnered to expand his distribution company. I signed talent from Latin America and the US, which was a fantastic way to connect and develop talent.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road, but that’s how you realize you love what you are doing. With everything comes struggle, but if you keep being persistent, you’ll soon realize that everything always falls into place. Some of my struggles came with learning how the industry works; you get so many no’s before a yes that you can easily get discouraged, but if you persist, that opportunity will eventually come.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I focus on production and songwriting, but my other big passion is running my record label “Loud Chemical Records”. I specialize in being hands-on with every project aspect, from the song’s conception to the music video, distribution, and release. I could say I’m most proud of how far I’ve come; coming from another country, learning a new language, and making a living off music is my most significant achievement. I make sure that in every project, I give my 100%. What sets me apart is the knowledge and experience I have to help an artist get from an idea to a finalized project. Most artists that work with me decide to do so because I can help them develop different areas that could help them grow in their careers.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I’m a massive fan of podcasts, and I listen to many of them, from pop culture to business and music podcasts. One of my favorites, which has helped me navigate this industry, is “And The Writer Is” hosted by Ross Golan. In that podcast, you can listen to many industry professionals and their experiences, and it helps a lot to understand how the industry works and try to avoid some of the things that are not helpful for your career.
