Today we’d like to introduce you to Grace Buzzini.
Hi Grace, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
As a kid, I wanted to be everything. I did horseback riding, gymnastics, dance, soccer, softball, you name it. It wasn’t until I started music lessons and children’s theatre that I thought, ‘Yep, this is where I’m meant to be.’ I spent all my time at my local theatre, Hutton’s Hamlet in Oakdale, CA performing until I outgrew their stage and became a helper. Of course, I also did many high school and community productions building my skills and resume. I’m so grateful for those experiences because they made me crave learning all aspects of this craft, leading me to study at a performing arts-based college, AMDA. I realized there were so many more roles than just being on a stage that I could learn to do… and of course, I wanted to try all of them. So as a recent graduate with a degree in Performing Arts, I’m so excited to dive into the world of musicals, voice-over, combat, and the beautiful world of cinema. I’ve overcome and am still battling many fears that come with this career, but it fits me like a puzzle piece; it feels like home. It’s an unexplainable love, and I’m ready for the journey!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Performing can sometimes feel like standing naked on a stage for everyone to see. Your flaws, your imperfections, all visible, no place to hide. And even though you’d like to say, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me,” they do. I can be very hard on the girl whose skin I wear. Comparing, comparing, criticizing, criticizing. I forget I’m a human being too, that we all are, and that the way I was shaped and the skin I was given tells my own beautiful story. This career is a mental marathon. I’ve learned (and am still learning) to know my worth. I also struggle with severe anxiety and believe me, this is a tricky business to navigate that. I’m beyond grateful for the people who are in my corner cheering me on and who help me climb back up when I tumble.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Being that I just graduated college, I’m working on building my resume and gathering more experience in film. The work I love to do ranges from acting to musical theatre to voice-over. I currently work as an animated character at Universal Studios as well as a crew member at YADA, a children’s theatre in Hollywood. I’m pretty proud of all the skills I’ve worked really hard to create. I’m a very well-rounded performer, and my love for it all really drives me to continue the work. Currently, I’m seeking more opportunities to expand my resume so I can acquire representation and truly devote myself to this industry I’ve fallen in love with.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was that weird kid next door who was always outside playing in the dirt and singing about Jesus. Growing up, my sister and I were always playing pretend and dressing up, forcing our family members to join in or be our audiences. Or we were outside going on adventures. My imagination ran wild. I love to watch movies with my family-we are big Disney and classic movie fans. I was obsessed with the magic of Disney. It inspired me to dream to the fullest in hopes that one day I’d get to be in a magical Disney film and create that sense of wonder for others. Furthermore, I grew up doing any activity I could get my hands on: horseback riding, dance, soccer, softball, gymnastics, photography, volleyball, and I’m probably missing a few. Theatre of course was my biggest activity. Such special memories and people I now call my dearest friends.
