Today we’d like to introduce you to George Briseno
Hi George, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Persistence, great teachers, hard lessons and lots of patience.
The path wasn’t linear, sometimes I’d find myself back where I started, but seeing everything differently. The teachers appeared when I was ready to listen, not when I thought I needed them. The lessons hurt until they didn’t. Patience turned out to be another word for forgiveness, mostly of myself.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Smooth? No. There were seasons of such financial drought that I’d count pennies like prayer beads. Hope became mathematical then. I learned to live on almost nothing, which turns out to be almost enough.
Relationships withered in my blind spots. Now I understand that tunnel vision is just another kind of blindness.
Lot of doubt, lots of that. It grew like something alive, something with teeth. Some days it was all I could taste.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Now I specialize in lighting, then I specialized in photography. Is either special? Yes and no. Both are just different languages for the same conversation I’ve been having with the world.
I have no idea what I’m known for and honestly it’s not important to me. The gap between how we’re perceived and who we are, that’s where the interesting parts of life happen.
What I’m most proud of is being a father. Everything else I’ve made can disappear. This cannot.
I think what really sets me apart from others is that we’re not really that far apart from each other. Our separateness is the grand illusion, and the boundaries between us are just stories we’ve agreed to believe. Our connectedness is subtle but permanent.
What matters most to you? Why?
Family.
The only thing I’ve found that expands as it’s divided.
