Conversations with Fely Tchaco Martin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Fely Tchaco Martin.

Fely Tchaco (Leye Martin) Martin

Hi Fely, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
It has always been my dream to install a special institution that specializes in the African Arts. From my personal story, art has saved my life as a child. This stayed with me in the back of my head until one day in my adulthood it became a reality, it is a very long story, but all I can say is I am very happy that I am the founder of AFRICAN ARTS ACADEMY.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’ve had many challenges and obstacles, not only in my personal life but also in the professional environment. Dealing with trauma, setback while maintaining a positive outlook on life. The art kept me going.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I was drawing and painting since my childhood, and later got into music and performing arts. I am a singer Songwriter and performer. I also paint. My medium is fine art, oil on canvas. I also work in the digital art using Illustrator to create intriguing visual arts.

I do both, I am a musician, and I am also a visual artist.

I use my art for my album covers, I create my own fashion designs and I love writing beautifully songs. So far, I have released 6 music albums, and I am right now working on a new single which is due by the end of this year hopefully.

When I am not working on my projects, I take care of my organization, the AFRICAN ARTS ACADEMY. I am the Executive Director and Program manager.

Every year we produce MODEFA (Modern Ethnic Fashion Show Gala) in the month of June to celebrate International Ethnic Day, as well as JUNTEENTH.

What matters most to you?
What matters to me most is appreciating cultural diversity. The value that each one of us bring into this world even if it is at the smallest scale. My daughter, as her and I have come from very far. I also think about the orphans that I take care of in Ivory Coast, West Africa.

I hope to contribute something not only in the arts world but on a social level as well the best way I can to create a lasting positive impact, like many of our predecessors have done in the past.
