Conversations with Elizabeth Ludlow

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Ludlow.

Hi Elizabeth, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve loved performing for as long as I can remember. As a child I would put on little self made shows for my friends and family in my room and on the playground. Singing and dancing always seemed to come naturally to me. It was a way for me express myself early on but it wasn’t until I got to high school that it became more of a driving force in my life. I dabbled in theatre as a teenager and was the lead of Hamlet in my high school play. That was a monumental moment for me. Being on stage and telling stories was my favorite part about high school. In college I went on to receive a theatre minor and from there, there was no looking back. I immediately began working towards making a name for myself in the film and television world. My first on screen performance was in 2013 on the show Vampire Diaries. I’ll never forget that day because the feeling I experienced solidified that this was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. From then I continued working in the Atlanta market and made my way onto shows including The Walking Dead and films such as Godzilla, King of the Monsters. I then made the move to Los Angeles in 2017 and have continued to work for networks including Netflix, HBO Max and Amazon. Recently I made my way into the video game space and have been doing motion capture and voice over work for the last two years.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
This journey has definitely not been a smooth one. I’m sure any actor can speak to this experience. There are times when you don’t work and the amount of rejection can be stifling. It can be extremely difficult on one’s ego to continue putting yourself in a space where rejection is not only normal but a critical part of the process as well. There’s plenty of times where you see opportunities pass you by that you feel as if were meant for you but I have found a way to see those moments no longer as rejection but redirection instead. There have been more times than I can count where I have doubted myself and my abilities. I’ve often questioned am I good enough? Is this meant for me? I’ve never let those feelings stop me though and I think that’s the key. Being able to tell meaningful stories, challenge beliefs and reach people through this medium brings me more joy than I can describe. At the end of the day I know it’s exactly where I’ve always wanted and was meant to be.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’ve been working in film and television for over a decade now. On screen performances have been my specialty but I also love being behind the camera. I’m also a screenwriter as well as a director. I’ve worked in all genres from Sci-Fi to romance. I’ve also made my way into the video game world lately and have been doing motion capture work and voice over for the last couple of years. Recently, I’ve also begun working on my own music which has been something I’ve been wanting to do for a while now. I plan on releasing some singles in the new year which I’m extremely excited about!

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory is from a time when my family and I went to South Africa. My mother is from South Africa so we would travel there frequently as kids to visit her family. One year we went to a farm where I got to ride an Ostrich! You had to put your hand under the wings and hold on as they ran around. It was kind of like riding a pony only way cooler.
