Conversations with Edgar Preciado

Today we’d like to introduce you to Edgar Preciado.

Edgar Preciado

Edgar, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started out as a craft beer social media influencer when I decided to record myself chugging a craft beer one night and posting it on Instagram. I began to enjoy drinking delicious craft beer at local breweries shortly after being released from prison. I think a lot of people thought it was funny or cool that a guy that looks like me was chugging a high-quality craft beer and not a Modelo. After posting, I started getting a bunch of followers, likes, and views, and people would even come up to me at breweries I visited. From there, I partnered with different companies for contract brewing before establishing my own brewery “Beer Thug Brewing.”

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think, in general, it’s difficult for any formerly incarcerated individual to start life again after serving time, but for me, the struggle is even harder as the CEO of a brewery that’s been operating on its own since August. They say you don’t begin to profit until a year after starting your own business, and as a family-owned business, I can definitely agree with that saying. While our brewery is spacious and our beers are delicious, it can get pretty expensive especially in this economy. We just hope our loyal supporters continue to support us and that more people learn about us and our brewery. Fortunately, our team is amazing, and I fully believe in their ability to help instill an environment of community where you feel at home at our brewery because that’s who we’re here for: the community.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
There’s so much that goes into running a brewery, but I think our creative side is what distinguishes us as a business. From making the recipe, naming our beers, and creating designs for cans, our brewery’s beers are deliciously exceptional, and they reflect Latino-American culture, which distinguishes us from other breweries.

What do you think about happiness?
My team and my day-one supporters make me happy. My team makes me happy because they are smart and hardworking. My day-one supporters make me happy because they’ve been there for me since contract brewing and way before Beer Thug Brewing came along. I’m also happy that my beer and my brewery attracts people from all walks of life and learning about their similarities while celebrating our differences one beer at a time.
