Today we’d like to introduce you to DJ HARMONYY
Hi DJ, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Growing up I was a high prospected basketball player who ended up playing pro across the seas in Europe. After I decided to end my career on the court, I made a quick decision to jump right in to my love for music. At the time I did not know exactly where my interest was going to place me, but as time passed my passion and love landed right into my lap. I met DJ 2 Tuff out in Indiana when I lived there for a good 6 months just to figure life out, outside of basketball. He showed me the basics on vinyl and from there I locked myself in my room for 4 months and practiced until I was comfortable enough to spin outside the room!
Now, I am the epitome of a professional athlete turned Disc Jockey. I have expanded my career around the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, Atlanta, and Florida regions since 2019. Since my debut in the industry I have made special performance appearances with Global R&B artist, TheArti$t, international brand Sick Wit It Record’s very own Hitta Slim, worked closely on events with exotic pop ambassadors, made my debut at Break Away Music Festival and is currently a core DJ for the prominent production company, Globe Vision Inc. Having deal with crowds like South Padre Island Spring break in Texas, Grammy & BET weekend in LA, or even the crows at Bill Graham Auditorium in SF, I continue to build a wide variety fanbase coast to coast thru my distinct energy and style.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Definitely not. One of the biggest challenges along the way was learning the business and learning how to maneuver around the industry. The first 2 years of my career I played the back in a lot of situations just to learn the game. That came with a lot of days on other people’s couches, sleepless nights, shoot I even slept in my car in some situations. I would say that time period of my career could have made or break me to being the DJ I am today.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a DJ, also know as the Love DJ. I specialize in all genres if I had to choose my personal fav. I would choose a blend of hip-hop, R&B, house, funk and cultural & global melodies into one!! Lowkey, like a kaytranada and Pharrell type feel you know. I take pride in my blends, transitions, ability to read and engage with the crowd on and off the decks. I am known for being unapologetically my self, giving and receiving energy in love and of course, turning up every crowd and keeping everyone on their feet! I am most proud of the way I am able to live in the truths, remain obedient, and grateful in all aspect good and bad. I feel all of that pours into my career in a positive way allowing me to make an atomic impact on my community and the world!
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I am originally from Oakland, CA. I have been around the world and I can say the culture Oakland has cultivated is one of its kind. The mental awareness and creativity around Oakland is not found anywhere else in the world. The least that I like about Oakland, I hate to answer this because I never want to shade my city… but… There is a lack of guidance and wisdom shared from our OG’s to the youngins who want to learn the game. Also, there is lot of selfishness and
“gatekeeping” that is highly effecting the success of the whole bay area itself. It keeps us in a box that doesn’t expand and refrains from abundance coming in. It time to change that.
