Conversations with DJ E-Rock

Today we’d like to introduce you to DJ E-Rock.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started out as one of the youngest radio jocks in the San Francisco Bay Area, ran a couple of nightclubs during my time there, hit big in Las Vegas, have maintained multiple Las Vegas DJ residencies over the last 15 years, while doing so I ended up on LA’s biggest radio station, REAL 92.3 with some of the greats that have paved the way for people like me. (Big Boy, J Cruz, DJ AOH, etc.)

Aside from that, I have a syndicated radio show “THE BASEMENT b.k.a Radio Bassment” (which aires on Real 92.3 + many other stations across the country) & on my free time I own & operate an entertainment marketing agency that has been a strong tool for a couple of big streetwear & sneaker retailer clients while maintaining the in-game DJ program (8 years strong) for my beloved home town team, the San Francisco 49ers. Never, to say the least, it can get busy here.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
This business is the land of the no. For every no you get, you’re like to get a yes down the line, but that is something you work for. That yes is one of the most rewarding things you could ever imagine receiving in the music business.

I’ve almost quit a couple of times, but I am glad I didn’t. Resilience is a quality you develop through experience.

Having faith that things will eventually go your way if you work hard enough is a mindset you have to keep throughout the entire journey.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’d like to say what got me here was being a JACK OF ALL TRADES. I pride myself on understanding so many aspects of the business. From marketing to programming to operations, I want to make sure I understand it all to be able for others to say “that guy E-Rock… He gets it.”

I DJ:

I’ve been a DJ for about 20 + years. I’ve done radio in markets such as San Francisco, and Las Vegas and am currently in Los Angeles via Real 92.3. I’ve been in the clubs since the age of 17 back where I’m from to some of the biggest and most exclusive clubs in Hollywood and have maintained Las Vegas residencies for the last 15 years. I also DJ for my hometown San Francisco 49ers as a passion project because of my love for football and the lineage of fandom within my family.

I am a Marketer:

During this journey, I’ve run successful marketing campaigns for some of the most storied nightlife brands in San Francisco which lead me to obtain a name in Las Vegas. I was able to bridge these markets by providing a pipeline of business through the network I had built through the years.

Within these past 10 years of being a marketing strategist, I’ve managed to make my way into the streetwear & sneaker space through the lens of Shoe Palace, Zen, Zappos and now assisting with efforts at Culture Kings & its flagship store in Las Vegas (Opening 11/5). Marketing is an art to me, and I enjoy being a dual threat as a DJ & marketing guru in today’s entertainment environment. Building bridges, connecting the dots through partnerships, and creating great immersive experiences are everything to me.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
Los Angeles really stands out to me because of the fight it instills in you. Not many people understand what it’s like to be successful in this city, it’s something I’ve wanted since a very young age when I caught the L.A bug.

The winning culture that Los Angeles breeds are something that allowed me to elevate my game. I am thankful for L.A, its culture, the people, and all the lessons it’s taught me over the years. Having spent some good time in L.A, I am proud to have done so.
