Today we’d like to introduce you to Devin Maxwell.
Hi Devin, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Born and raised in Culver City. I grew up playing lacrosse and basketball in Culver City.
When I got to high school, I slowly grew more and more passionate about lacrosse.
I earned an opportunity to go on to play college lacrosse in upstate NY, which many consider to be the Mecca of the sport. It was there that my passion became my lifestyle.
Throughout my playing career, I fell in love with the development process I saw in my own game. I knew that I enjoyed helping others develop and watching/guiding them on their journey to achieve a goal. I made the decision that I wanted to coach for a living.
After college, I went overseas to coach and play in Manchester, England for a year; came home in 2015 and helped grow my hometown grassroots program Culver City lacrosse club.
In 2020, I started my own lacrosse club the westside bears lacrosse club. Our primary focus is developing lacrosse players of all ages and skill levels. We thrive on players coming together from all areas on the westside with various levels of skill and experience and background. And coming together and creating a fun, cohesive learning environment using lacrosse as the vehicle to help create quality men.
This year, I was hired as the head men’s varsity lacrosse coach at Notre dame high school.
Also, I currently am still playing, I’m a member of the groove lc a professional team in the NLA pro.
We are a league made up mostly of minority players whose mission is to spread awareness of the game to inner city and minority youth athletes.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I wouldn’t say a smooth road.
However, I feel like success without struggle isn’t earned.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
