Conversations with Danielle Johnson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Johnson.

Hi Danielle, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I go by Danii Jay for branding. I am currently a content creator/ photographer/ fashion model. I started off as young as I can remember loving fashion and taking photos. I started taking photos for my church when I was a teenager and kept taking them for every event we had. I loved playing dress up games on the computer when I was growing up and I think that’s where my love for fashion came from. I originally wanted to be a stylist and always wanted to be a photographer but felt like I had to choose one so I chose fashion. I started going to school for fashion merchandising and interning for fashion showrooms while in community college. I interned for a celebrity stylist and did a styled shoot on my own and quickly realized I didn’t want to style others; I wanted to be the one dressing up. I took my love for photography and fashion and combined them. I taught my sister or friends the angles I wanted for my photos and started there. Or I’ll use my tripod and clicker. I am currently building my brand online to continue content creating and now building up the confidence to accept the fact that I want to be a photographer and fashion model as well.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Some struggles I faced was not having enough confidence in myself and believing I could really be a photographer/content creator. I grew up really shy so I have always been in my own little she’ll probably up until my 11th grade of high school. Even then, I had a couple more years until I stopped being to myself and shy. I had to learn how to have confidence in myself and I had to learn to use the resources I had around me because I didn’t have a lot of finances I could use. Another struggle was finding my lane. I’ve always loved fashion but I was confused on what I would be doing in it. Overall my struggle was not believing in myself and my God and letting my negative thoughts impact my outcome instead of keeping my eyes and faith and belief on Jesus that he would direct me.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Right now, my work is on Instagram and I am creating outfits and photos that best portray these outfits. I specialize in being able to take any piece of clothing whether it’s old or new… 5$ or 100$ I will make it stylish and make it work. I also specialize in poses for content creators and finding the right background and helping other people with their fashion outfit poses. I believe I’m most known for being fashionable at least that’s what most people say when they see me. I am most proud of my ability to use what I have especially since I don’t have a lot to create my content. I am also proud that I haven’t quite yet because life is not easy. What sets me apart from others is that I know who Danielle Johnson is and I’m not afraid of being here anymore and my ability to serve God in a cute ass outfit, lol.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I currently live in Long Beach but I was raised in Compton for 13 years. I like most about Long Beach is having the beach near. What I like best about the city is great places to take content and the sun. What I least about the city is the traffic and not enough good food.
