Conversations with Dane Hesse

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dane Hesse.

Hi Dane, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I graduated from college with a degree in History and Political Science in 2008 with the intention to move on and attend law school. Instead, I enrolled at the Real Barbers College in 2009, worked for a local shop in 2010, and opened my own shop in 2011.

My shop is in a part of Costa Mesa, OC that used to be the main hub of the local actions sports industry. I opened up in a warehouse because at the time no one was doing it and it was affordable.

The shop has grown over the ten years from me cutting solo to having two other barbers busy every day of the week.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a “hard” road. I have sworn by consistency since day one. If we have our schedule open we are available, we will be at work and we will do our absolute best to be on time.

There have been a few struggles along the way, but overall the shop has grown strong from the great support of our customer base.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a barber that specializes in traditional men’s haircuts. I’m known for being a consistent well-rounded barber. I’m not the most famous, but I’m also not unknown.

I’ve worked with some great global brands, like Uppercut Deluxe, to influence cutting technique and hairstyling practices.

I’m so proud of the shop of built with my other barbers and our customers. We have such a rad time at work everyday. People give the shop such amazing support.

We have been an appointment only shop since day one. That means we show up everyday the schedule is open for our customers to book appointments, we maintain a high quality of finished product, and we are as timely as we can possibly be.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I always enjoy hearing the ways people want to be creative together. I’ve participated in a variety of events, filming, photography, charitable, concerts and other events through the years.
